Daniels had attended previous Bahamas film festivals, and having Precious as BIFF's closing night film is a definitely feather in the festival's founder and executive director's hat, as not only did the film win for best screenplay adaptation, but it also won for Best Supporting Actress by Mo'Nique, and she becomes only the fifth black actress to win an Oscar following Hattie McDaniel, Whoopi Goldberg, Halle Berry and Jennifer Hudson.
