Nassau, Bahamas – The 12th Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF), kicks off today, welcoming over 35 international filmmakers to present their movies, participate in panels, and immerse themselves in Bahamian community and culture.

BIFF Founder and Executive Director Leslie Vanderpool said, “This year’s range of directors coming to the Festival is extraordinary. Film lovers attending BIFF will have the chance to mix with these great creatives, discuss their films and ask them questions, and mingle with them at BIFF events.”

The Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF) announced today the two features that will bookend the Festival as the Opening and Closing Night films. Director Todd Haynes’ beautiful feature film, “Carol”, starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara will raise the curtain at this year’s festival as the official Opening Night Film in Nassau on December 9 while Amy Berg’s critically acclaimed Janis Joplin documentary, “Janis: Little Girl Blue”, will bring the week’s festivities to an end in celebratory fashion as the official Closing Night film. Nassau, Bahamas – The Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF), this year celebrating its 12th anniversary, today announced the members of the jury that will preside over the competition categories at the Festival, which takes place December 1st – 12th. The jury was revealed today by BIFF Founder and Executive Director Leslie Vanderpool.

The four competition categories at BIFF are Spirit of Freedom: Narrative; Spirit of Freedom: Documentary; New Visions; and Short Film. Jury members are:

Nassau, Bahamas – It was announced today that JetBlue has come on board once again to partner with the 12th Annual Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF),  and will lend its name to the New Vision Film Category of the Festival. Bahamian born graphic designer, KellyAnne Huber attended Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah GA in 2000. She spent 5 years working in various publication and advertising houses in the United States after graduating with a degree in Graphic Design and Communication Arts. She also spent time working in the South of France working with a Historic Restoration company. In 2004 KellyAnne launched her own graphic design & branding company, CREATIVE SPOT.

Nassau, Bahamas  – The Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF) announced today that Debra Messing (“Like Sunday Like Rain, Will and Grace, The Women, Open Season, The Wedding Date, The Starter Wife, Seinfeld”) will be honored with BIFF’s special Shining Star Tribute, presented by Atlantis Resort. The Festival’s Shining Star Award is given to an actor or actress whose noteworthy performances have put them on the path for elite and lasting stardom in the industry. OTTAWA, Canada  – An authentically Bahamian film is set to make it debut at the Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF) next month before hitting the worldwide circuit.

“When Pigs Swim”, an entertaining documentary produced by GIV Bahamas Inc. and directed by Charlie Smith, tells the story of Exuma’s famous swimming swine. For the last several years, these animals have grown from a cult favourite to indeed a global phenomenon, sparking thousands of videos, photos and stories from people all around the world.

The Bahamas International Film Festival recently unveiled its 2014 promotional poster designed by artist Ryan “Duser” Stubbs. The festival is set for December 4th through 14th and will take place first in Nassau and then in Harbour Island.
