Freeport, BAHAMAS, October 31, 2018 – The countdown is on for the Blood Donors Society of  Grand Bahama (BDSGB)’s signature event of the year, Red Soiree, set for this weekend at the Grand Bahama Yacht Club.

Since the BDSGB was founded in May of 2017, President Lededra Marche said, the organization has been moving full speed ahead with its campaign to enlist residents from throughout the Grand Bahama to join its Volunteer Blood Donor Registry as a means of replenishing the blood bank at the Rand Memorial Hospital.

“We are hosting our first ever fund-raising event, Red Soiree, on Saturday, November 3rd, 2018 at the Grand Bahama Yacht Club and we are asking residents of Grand Bahama to join us in a night of fun and laughter,” Marche said.

“We dubbed it Red Soirée, but it's just a fancy name for event and we want people to come out, let their hair down and have a good time. The dress code is white top and blue jeans. There'll be live entertainment, including our feature band, Uppercut 242, lots of laughs and fabulous prizes, all for a good cause.”

The Blood Donor registry was initiated in December 2017 and is growing. As an added bonus, those attending the Red Soiree will also have an opportunity to sign up as a voluntary blood donor.

“We would also love to say thank you to the many sponsors who have jumped onboard to help make our first event a success, including Bahamas Sanitary Engineering, Candylicious, Benjamin Ferguson, Jr. The Artist, Chef Roxy 242, Bellevue Business Depot, Paint Fair, Crème de la Crème, Derek Carroll Photography, S & D Tours, Ideal Unisex & Health and Spa, Ronnie’s Organic, BTC, Old Bahama Bay, PharmaChem Technologies, Dolly Madison, Calenders & Co., Jarol Investments, Jubilee Scents, Jags International, Retired Educators Association, Bahamian Brewery, Paradise Cove, Discount Fencing and Pressure Cleaning, Express Food Mart, KissFm, Love97, Imagine Graphics & Printing, Uniform Place and Gizmos & Gadgets,” Marche said.

Long-time partners, the Grand Bahama Health Services and Bahamas Red Cross Grand Bahama Center, have joined the BDSGB in its quest to meet its ultimate goal to purchase a blood mobile that will allow them to go into the communities and make it easier for members of the public to donate blood.

Another goal is setting up a 24-hour Help Desk.

BDSGB Vice President Dr. Catherine Adderley noted that aside from the Red Soiree being a fundraiser, it is also an avenue to raise awareness about the BDSGB’s initiatives.

“As many people in the public well know, the importance of donation for many doesn’t become apparent until they actually need blood and we constantly need to replenish our blood supply at the Grand Bahama Health Services,” she said.

“That’s why we’re expanding our registry by increasing the number of persons who we know can give blood and are registered to give blood. We are constantly augmenting our blood because as you know blood supply is disposable, so we need every month to replenish the blood supply.”

Stephanie Barr, administrator at the Bahamas Red Cross Grand Bahama Centre, urged residents and corporate Grand Bahama to come out and support a worthy cause to save lives.

Tickets outlets are Gizmos and Gadgets, KissFM, Uniform Place and Imagine Graphics and Printing. Tickets can also be purchased from any member of the BDSGB.
