The 2013/ 2014 Heart Ball Committee presents the 50th Annual Heart Ball, under the theme “Celebrating the Golden Anniversary of a Vision… Championing the Cause of Children!”, an entertaining and exciting fundraiser to benefit the Sir Victor Sassoon (Bahamas) Heart Foundation. Funds donated to The Heart Foundation help to repair the hearts of children in The Bahamas.

On Saturday February 15, 2014, the 50th Annual Heart Ball is set to take place at Melia Nassau Beach Resort and will feature a performance by Grammy award winning artist; Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Award winner and 2-time Billboard winner, Mr. Rik Carey. Mr. Carey is a Bahamian artist, music producer, songwriter, proprietor and drummer. He is best known for his lead vocals in Baha-Men. As an up and coming artist, his art pieces have also been on display throughout The Bahamas. In addition to Mr. Carey’s performance, there will be performances by the S-G Band, The RBPF Pop Band and the RBDF Dance Band.

"I'm excited to be performing at the Annual Heart Ball," said Carey on his Facebook page. "...especially since they will be celebrating 50 years of service and contributions in saving people's lives. I am honored to be a part of this event. See ya there!"

Tickets for the event start at $250 per person and covers a five course meal, great entertainment, an opportunity to dance the night away and opportunities to win: a door prize, a table prize, a raffle prize and possibly an auction item. Up for grabs are: a round-trip ticket for two to London on Virgin Atlantic, travel for two to the Cayman Island on British Airways along with accommodations at the Westin, travel for two to Florida on Bahamasair, and many more travel excursions. There will be opportuniteies to win pampering atplaces such as Lyford Cay Spa, Hollis Cosmetics, Clippendale’s and others. There will also be dinners to places like Aqua at Melia, Athena’s Café, Van Brugels and much more. There will also be Artwork by the late Chan Pratt, Clifford Fernander, Nettica Symonette, Shakila Stubbs, an hibiscus photo by Portia Nottage and many more well known artists. Lastly, but not least, there will also be fine jewelry up for grabs such as: a LuiCairi Men’s Watch, a Woman’s Topaz necklace set from Venetian Jeweler’s, an oyster pearl by A Divine Design, and much more.

According to Portia Nottage, Heart Ball Committee Co-Chair, “ We are proud to host the 50th Heart Ball. We want people to come and enjoy an evening filled with glitz, glamour and fun. It’s an opportunity to get dressed-up, look your best and know that your money is well spent. The donations given, in terms of paying for a ticket to attend The Ball, helps to save lives. It’s money well spent.”

The number of children in need of urgent heart care increases daily. Whilst many children are monitored by doctors in hopes that their condition may improve or does not deteriorate, others simply cannot wait for care; they need urgent care. Sadly, many babies are born with heart disease, and need urgent care immediately after birth. In most situations, this is not something the parents or guardians expected or planned for mentally, emotionally, or financially. At present there are over five patients awaiting heart surgeries and need urgent care. One surgery can cost over $100,000. Limited income does not help a parent whose child need surgery locally or abroad; it can be very challenging to accept you can’t help the one you love. The help of others can make a difference.

According to Mr. Rik Carey, "I love what I do. I am driven by my work in all forms. I am happy to help save a child’s life. I wish to encourage others to join us in the fight to save a child’s life”.

The 50th Annual Heart Ball is currently sponsored in part by: Cable Bahamas, Virgin Atlantic, Bahamasair, BTC, John Bull, G & M Appliances, Floral Arts, ZNS, The Salus Project, Pictet Bank, Scotiabank, TheBahamasWeekly.com, Bahamaislandsinfo.com, Barefoot Marketing, More 94 FM, Love 97, Island FM, and JCN.

To purchase tickets to attend the 50th Heart Ball, to purchase an ad in the commemorative booklet, or to make or donation to The Heart Foundation, please call 327-0806. Your support can mean the difference between life or death of a child.
