Known for his unique, unorthodox approach to fashion, combined with a vision to bring inclusiveness and disruption to style, it should come as no surprise that the electrifying 2018 Telfar Fashion Show at New York Fashion Week presented an unconventional evening of music and art.

Telfar is the brainchild of celebrity Fashion Designer, Telfar Clemens who for over ten years have set the trend of making unisex fashion mainstream through his eponymous line of pieces for all genders; and who champions the cause of diversity and gender fluidity accoutering. A native of Queens, the Liberian-American’s inspiration as he was once quoted, derived from his own talent  from childhood for picking trendy, fashion-forward clothing to wear himself with no desire for conformity.

Some 13 years later, having now become a signature staple on the New York Fashion Week Calendar, Clemens still held true to his values not only with his latest collection, but also in the manner in which he chose to showcase it.

Prince Lewis agents were on the ground in New York City to attend the iconic show which deviated from the conventional runway and instead, was presented in the form of a concert. As each new performer came on stage, including stars such as Dev Hynes, Ian Isiah, Selah Marley, Kelela, Kelsey Lu, Angel, LeFrak Vocal Choir, they wore a distinguished piece from the collection. In essence Telfar, in touch with the cultural climate of New York City, created an exhilarating evening of artistic expression with the after-party continuing at Century 21.

As more designers continue ditching runway tradition, for more custom, inter-connected experiences, pioneering this movement aligned perfectly with Telfar who continues to redefine self-expression, and in essence, fashion itself.
