Upcoming Screenings in Freeport and Nassau, supported by Galleria Cinemas and Scotiabank

The Black Moses,
the Bahamian docu-drama starring Dennis Haysbert has been invited to participate in a University Tour around the world.

"We don't have a University of The Bahamas as yet, but with the help of Scotiabank and Galleria Cinemas we're creating one - for one night," said Bahamian filmmaker Travolta Cooper.

" The Black Moses carries several themes as it relates to developing African nations. And we're going to expound upon those themes as it relates to the place and country where the film is being screened," he continued. "As for The Bahamas, we'd like to expound upon the theme of education and perhaps the need for a University here. A University Of The Bahamas and the essence of what that means".

The film will screen at Galleria Cinemas in Freeport, Grand Bahama and in Nassau February 11th at 7pm. It's free to students and teachers.

A panel discussion and Q & A will follow at Mojo's Restaurant on West Bay Street Nassau for 9pm. This will be a part of the Mojo's Diner's Debate.

"Much of this was inspired by the last conversation I had with Dr. Myles Munroe. While he was happy it did well in theaters, he admonished us to get it into the schools and universities. 'Above all, this film belongs in the classrooms' Dr. Munroe said. In fact, we're going to be releasing the full interview with Dr. Munroe around the same time online. It was one of his last ones," said Cooper.

The Bahamas is the first stop on the tour, and between February and April 2015 the film has been invited to screen at Howard University (D.C), Hampton University (Virginia), Spellman and Moorehouse in Atlanta, Stanford University, Harvard University and there are more to come. The Black Moses is also traveling to London, Toronto, and South Africa.

An there's more! The Black Moses will make its international television debut before Summer 2015.

"I thought the film would have its run and we'd be done with it, but that hasn't been the case," said Cooper.  "The Black Moses has been a marathon instead, and there seems to be no end in sight. Even after the L.O Pindling story is done, we're already in talks with Los Angeles to produce another story under The Black Moses brand. It's a mythology and like most 'myth movies' this can go on and on."

The film follows a turbulent and exciting period in the life and Bahamian trailblazer L.O. Pindling, a complex, enigmatic and nuanced character struggling to lead the Bahamas to political and economic equity in 1967. It is also a story of the struggle encountered by many post-colonial countries as they challenge the status quo. Part informational and part documentary, the film stars Golden Globe nominee Dennis Haysbert (24, Sin City 2, Dear White People). Mr. Haysbert plays the mythical Black Moses who surfaces to tell his story as the character of Pindling. Pindling, regarded as the "Father of the Nation" in The Bahamas led it to independence in 1973 and served as Prime Minister of The Bahamas from 1969 to 1992. He was leader of the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) from 1965 to 1997 when he resigned from public life. He died in 2000.

"The Black Moses" features commentary from widow Dame Marguerite Pindling; American minister and civil rights activist Jesse Jackson, American politician, diplomat, activist and pastor Andrew Young; Sir Sidney Poitier; former South African President Thabo Mbeki (for Nelson Mandela); former Canadian PM Brian Mulroney; Former Jamaican PM PJ Patterson, musician Wyclef Jean; and many other international luminaries.
