The documentary film,
The Hip Hop Project, based on the life of
Bahamian Chris "Kazi" Rolle and produced by Bruce Willis and Queen Latifah will premiere on the Sundance Channel on Monday,
May 4th at 9pm. The film also
features hip hop mogul Russell Simmons. The film will also air on Saturday, May 9th at 1pm.
Chris “Kazi” Rolle was born in Nassau, Bahamas. He grew up in foster care and orphanages before coming to New York at the age of fourteen to reconnect with his biological mother. A turbulent reunion led to his living homeless on the streets of Brooklyn where he began hustling at night to survive though he did continue to stay in school.
Documentarian Matt Ruskin tells the "irresistibly uplifting" Variety story of Chris "Kazi" Rolle and his Brooklyn-based organization that encourages disadvantaged kids to express themselves in verse rather than violence.
