Freeport, Grand Bahama Island - The Uppercut journey continues as the band moves up several notches with the addition of two new members, Syd Collie and Massawe Dean. “Two sisters that sing really well and an additional keyboard player for the band in Syd” says David Mackey bandleader and  former lead guitarist for Grammy nominated T-Connection Band.  He went on further to say that the band’s biggest weakness was the lack of a full complement of backing vocals. “Initially we sought a single singer but when we invited Syd and Massawe to rehearsal, the sound was so sweet that the consensus was that we had to have them both.”

Acknowledging that it is difficult to get work for a large band, Mackey says,  “It’s all about the music. There are more than enough one-man bands and Karaoke people out there. People crave LIVE music and that’s what we offer to those who see the value of giving people what they want.”

The Uppercut Band now comprises seven band members; David Mackey, Band Leader and Guitars; Javan Hunt Lead Vocals, percussion (and soon to be, 2nd guitar); David ‘Shakey’ Williams, Drums, Raps and Vocals; Shaquita Stubbs; Keyboards, Vocals and Backing Vocals Coordination, Bonzi Ferguson, Bass guitar; Syd Collie, Vocals and 2nd keyboards and Massawe Dean, Vocals. Mackey describes Uppercut as a Multi-Genre Band because they perform such a wide variety of music styles.

Uppercut’s home base is The Dive In Restaurant and Bar at UNEXSO at Port Lucaya Marina. The band performs a Free monthly outdoor ‘Concert Under The Stars at The Marina’ the last Saturday of every month. The Dive In prepares a special Dinner menu and Uppercut performs a free concert to a vast audience of locals and expats who love hearing real live music without instrumental soundtracks or pre-programmed music. Uppercut’s vast selection of music covers Classic Rock, Reggae, R&B, Blues, ‘Calyp-Soca’ and more. Uppercut is celebrating three years of ‘Concerts at the Marina Under the Stars.’

Mackey exclaims, “With four great lead and background vocalists and a tight rhythm section we’re ready for just about anything!”

Uppercut is available for exclusive live events, parties and more. For more info and booking, visit  @uppercutlive on Facebook or contact bandleader David Mackey; MackeyMedialtd@gmail.com (242) 375 -1305.
