One of the most sought after female artists in The Bahamas is set to take the stage at the Grand Bahama Regatta & Homecoming which runs July 22nd to 24th at Taino Beach in Freeport. Bishop will perform on the evening of Saturday, July 23rd.

"Bishop being a native of Grand Bahama, we the regatta committee members know that she will put on a show like none other," said Chervita Campbell.  "Bishop through her performances and songs, inspire the young and young at heart. We're excited to have her performing this year!"

Veronica Bishop's most requested song is, "Tell Ole I Ain't Here" and the Freeport audience will not be disappointed. Along with Bishop, Julien Believe, D-Mac, and Lady General will be performing.

But just who is Veronica Bishop? Well she'll tell you here in her own words:

I was born in Nassau, Bahamas at Princess Margaret Hospital to Ruben and Eloise Rolle. I am the second oldest daughter of four. My oldest sister is, Janice and my two brothers are Ricardo and Raymond Rolle. At the age of five, both of our parents passed away, and we went to Cat Island to live with our grandparents. Two years later, I started singing with a Rake N’ Scrape band at my grandmother’s club, ‘Blue Bird Club.’ I then left Cat Island at the age of 13 and came to Nassau where I started my first job at the Chicken Farm. I hated that job, so after about 3 months, I got a job at Blanco Bleach and stayed there for a little while.

Then, I got a job at Fish Net restaurant and bar where I met some friends from Great Harbour Cay who took me back with them to live at the age of 17. When Igot there, I worked as a cashier for a while. There was a band named, ‘The Falcons’ whom I started singing 1 song with every night at the club until one night I asked them ifI could join the band, and they said, ‘Sure!’ And that was how I began my career in 1977.

In 1980, I left Great Harbour Cay with The Falcons and came back to Nassau where we sang from club to club. That same year, I was in an all girl’s group named, ‘Midnight Magic’ and we sang at ‘Trade Winds’ on Paradise Island. The members were Linda Beverly, Margie Barr and I. After a month, I went to Freeport in 1981 and started working as a waitress until I got the call to work at, ‘Ronnie’s Rebel Room’ on Bay Street. I worked there for 2 years before I starting working for Peanuts Taylor at, ‘The Drumbeat Club.’ In the meantime, I was working at The Nassau Beach Hotel and all the other hotels as a solo act.In 1992, ‘The Drumbeat’ shut its doors so I went to Florida, where I worked as a nurse. I moved to Philadelphia in 1996. Then, in 1998, I went back to Freeport and started singing with a 3 piece band.

From there, I created the band, ‘Veronica Bishop and The Lucayans’ and did my first album, ‘Woman Will Rule’ and ‘Don’t Be the Other Woman.’ In 2005, I returned to Nassau and did my third album, ‘Tell Old I Ain’t Here.’ Shortly after, I started working at Atlantis, Paradise Island as an entertainer, and I have been there ever since. My new single, ‘Hands Swingin’ was released in 2012 and is doing well on the charts. Mid-year, I plan to release my fourth album. I am currently taking piano lessons and I plan to play while performing by the age of 60.
