NEWS ITEM ON HURRICANE JERRY ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY FORECAST OFFICE SECTION, AT 6PM EDT THURSDAY, 19TH SEPTEMBER, 2019.

  … JERRY STILL STRENGTHENING…

AT 5 PM EDT, THE EYE OF HURRICANE JERRY WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 17.5°NORTH AND LONGITUDE 55.8° WEST OR ABOUT 395 MILES EAST OF THE LEEWARD ISLANDS.

JERRY IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST NEAR 17 MILES PER HOUR.  A WEST-NORTHWEST TO NORTHWEST MOTION AT A DECREASING FORWARD SPEED IS EXPECTED OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS.  ON THE FORECAST TRACK, THE CENTER OF JERRY WILL MOVE NORTH OF THE NORTHERN LEEWARD ISLANDS FRIDAY, PASS WELL NORTH OF PUERTO RICO ON SATURDAY AND BE WELL EAST-NORTHEAST OF THE SOUTHEASTERN BAHAMAS ON SUNDAY.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS HAVE INCREASED TO NEAR 90 MILES PER HOUR WITH HIGHER GUSTS.  JERRY COULD STRENGTHEN DURING THE NEXT DAY OR SO BEFORE SOME WEAKENING IS ANTICIPATED BY THIS WEEKEND.

…HUMBERTO EXPECTED TO BECOME A POWERFUL EXTRATROPICAL CYCLONE TONIGHT…

…LARGE SWELLS AFFECTING BERMUDA AND MUCH OF THE EAST COAST OF THE US…

AT 5 PM EDT, THE CENTER OF HURRICANE HUMBERTO WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 38.5°NORTH AND LONGITUDE 58.7° WEST OR ABOUT 550 MILES NORTHEAST OF BERMUDA.

HUMBERTO IS MOVING TOWARD THE NORTHEAST NEAR 24 MILES PER HOUR.  A SLOWER NORTH-NORTHEASTWARD MOTION IS EXPECTED TONIGHT AND FRIDAY.  A TURN TOWARD THE EAST-NORTHEAST IS EXPECTED TO COMMENCE BY FRIDAY NIGHT.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 105 MILES PER HOUR WITH HIGHER GUSTS.  THE HURRICANE IS EXPECTED TO SLOWLY WEAKEN AND BECOME A POST-TROPICAL CYCLONE TONIGHT.

THE NEXT NEWS ITEM WILL BE ISSUED AT  6 AM FRIDAY 20TH SEPTEMBER.
