Arlene: Rare Tropical Storm forms in North Atlantic Ocean, Poses no threat to land

NASSAU, The Bahamas - News Item on Tropical Storm Arlene issued by The Bahamas Department of Meteorology Forecast Office Section, at 6pm, Thursday, April 20, 2017.  
A rare tropical storm forms in the North Atlantic; it is still expected to dissipate on Friday, April 21.

It is the first named storm of the 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season, Arlene and poses no threat to land.

At 5pm, the center of Tropical Depression One was located near latitude 37.7°north and longitude 42.0° west or about 815 miles west of the Azores.

Tropical Storm Arlene is moving toward the west-northwest near 25mph and this general motion is expected to continue until dissipation on Friday.  

Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph with higher gusts. Arlene is forecast to become absorbed by a large extra-tropical low and dissipate on Friday.  
This comes about two months before the start of the 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

According to Dr Phil Klotzbach of Colorado State University expected are   12 named storms, 6 of which to become hurricanes and 2 at category 3 or higher.

The 2017 Storm names are: Arlene, Bret, Cindy, Don, Emily, Franklin, Gert, Harvey, Irma, Jose, Katia, Lee, Maria, Nate, Ophelia, Philippe, Rina, Sean, Tammy, Vince and Whitney.

The Hurricane Season starts June 1 and ends November 30.
