BAHAMAS PUBLIC FORECAST

THIS IS THE BAHAMAS PUBLIC FORECAST FOR THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT SUNDAY 11TH, OCTOBER 2020 ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY AT 12 PM.

GENERAL SITUATION:  A PRE-FRONTAL TROUGH WILL PRODUCE SHOWER ACTIVITY ACROSS THE NORTHWEST BAHAMAS TONIGHT AND TOMORROW, WHILE A WEAK RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE SIT ACROSS THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHEASTERN ISLANDS.

SPECIAL WARNINGS: MARINERS SHOULD BE ALERT FOR POSSIBLE WATER-SPOUT ACTIVITY DURING HEAVY SHOWERS OR A THUNDERSTORM. FLOODING IS POSSIBLE IN LOW LYING AND FLOOD PRONE AREAS OF THE NORTHWEST BAHAMAS DURING THE NEXT 36 HOURS. 

NORTHWEST BAHAMAS

WEATHER:  PARTLY CLOUDY TO CLOUDY, HOT AND HUMID WITH SCATTERED SHOWERS AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS THROUGH TONIGHT.

ADVISORY: EXPECT GUSTY WINDS AND HIGHER SEAS IN OR NEAR SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS

WINDS: SOUTHEAST TO SOUTH AT 10 TO 15 KNOTS FALLING LIGHT AND VARIABLE AT TIMES

SEAS: 2 TO 4 FEET

 

CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS

WEATHER: PARTLY SUNNY, WARM AND HUMID WITH A QUICK PASSING SHOWER, BECOMING FAIR AND WARM TONIGHT

WINDS: EASTERLY AT 10 TO 15 KNOTS

WEATHER OUTLOOK: THE SURFACE TROUGH ALONG WITH ITS TRAILING FRONTAL BOUNDARY WILL CONTINUE THEIR WESTWARD TREK ACROSS THE NORTHWEST BAHAMAS TOMORROW.

 

TROPICAL WEATHER: A WESTWARD MOVING TROPICAL WAVE CENTERED ABOUT 1200 MILES EAST OF THE WINDWARD ISLANDS HAS A LOW 20 PERCENT CHANCE OF FORMATION THROUGH THE NEXT 5 DAYS.
