BAHAMAS PUBLIC FORECAST

THIS IS THE BAHAMAS PUBLIC FORECAST FOR THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT THURSDAY 10TH SEPTEMBER 2020 ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY AT 12 PM.

GENERAL SITUATION: A WESTWARD MOVING LOW LEVEL TROUGH COMBINED WITH A MOISTURE RICH TROPICAL AIRMASS ACROSS THE AREA WILL CONTINUE TO KEEP AN UNSETTLED WEATHER PATTERN IN PLACE ACROSS THE BAHAMAS TODAY.

SPECIAL WARNINGS: BOATERS SHOULD REMAIN VIGILANT DUE TO POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT ACTIVITY. THERE REMAIN THE POTENTIAL FOR SOME LOCALIZED FLOODING IN LOW LYING AND FLOOD PRONE AREAS DURING HEAVY AND PROLONGED RAINFALL.

WEATHER: PARTLY CLOUDY TO OCCASIONALLY CLOUDY AND HUMID WITH WIDELY SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS TODAY THROUGH TONIGHT. SHOWERS WILL BE LOCALLY HEAVY AND THUNDERSTORMS STRONG TO SEVERE AT TIMES.

ADVISORY: GUSTY WINDS AND HIGHER SEAS CAN BE EXPECTED IN SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS.

WINDS: EAST-NORTHEAST TO EAST-SOUTHEAST AT 10 TO 15 KNOTS BUT FALLING LIGHT AND VARIABLE AT TIMES IN THE NORTHWEST BAHAMAS AND EAST TO SOUTHEAST AT 10 TO 15 KNOTS IN THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS.

WEATHER OUTLOOK: A MOIST AND UNSTABLE AIRMASS ACROSS THE AREA ALONG WITH A LOW LEVEL DISTURBANCE DRIFTING WESTWARDS ACROSS THE BAHAMAS WILL KEEP AN UNSETTLED WEATHER PATTERN IN PLACE.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK: SEE NEWS ITEM ON TROPICAL STORM PAULETTE AND RENE. ELSEWHERE FOUR AREAS ARE BEING MONITORED BY THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER. (1) A TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE LOCATED JUST OFF THE COAST OF NORTH CAROLINA WITH A LOW CHANCE OF FORMATION THROUGH FIVE DAYS. (2) A LARGE AREA OF DISORGANIZED WEATHER CENTERED A COUPLE OF HUNDRED MILES NORTHEAST OF THE CENTRAL BAHAMAS WITH A 30 PERCENT CHANCE OF FORMATION THROUGH FIVE DAYS. (3) A TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE DEVELOPING OVER THE NORTHEASTERN GULF OF MEXICO WITH A 20 PERCENT CHANCE OF FORMATION THROUGH FIVE DAYS (4) A TROPICAL WAVE MOVING OFF THE WEST COAST OF AFRICA WITH A 90 PERCENT CHANCE OF FORMATION THROUGH FIVE DAYS. AND (5) ANOTHER TROPICAL WAVE FORECAST TO EMERGE OFF THE WEST COAST OF AFRICA THIS WEEKEND WITH A 40 PERCENT CHANCE OF FORMATION THROUGH FIVE DAYS. ELSEWHERE TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION IS NOT EXPECTED DURING THE NEXT FIVE DAYS.
