BAHAMAS PUBLIC FORECAST

THIS IS THE BAHAMAS PUBLIC FORECAST FOR TODAY AND TONIGHT SUNDAY 13TH SEPTEMBER 2020 ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY AT 6 AM.                                 

GENERAL SITUATION:  OUTER RAIN BANDS ASSOCIATED WITH TROPICAL STORM SALLY LOCATED NEAR THE EASTERN GULF OF MEXICO WILL CONTINUE TO PRODUCE POCKETS OF UNSETTLED WEATHER ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE NORTHWEST BAHAMAS WHILE HIGH PRESSURE DOMINATES ELSEWHERE TODAY.

SPECIAL WARNINGS: BOATERS SHOULD BE ALERT FOR MODERATE SWELLS AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT ACTIVITY WHILE BEACHGOERS SHOULD EXERCISE CAUTION DUE TO THE RISK OF RIP CURRENTS AT EAST COAST BEACHES.

NORTHWEST BAHAMAS

WEATHER: VARIABLE CLOUDINESS, HOT AND A BIT BREEZY WITH A FEW SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THE CHANCE OF ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS THROUGH TONIGHT.

ADVISORY: A SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT DUE TO SWELLS. BOATERS SHOULD ALSO BE ALERT FOR GUSTY WINDS AND HIGHER SEAS IN OR NEAR HEAVY SHOWERS OR THUNDERSTORMS.

WINDS: EAST TO SOUTHEAST AT 15 KNOTS OVER OPEN WATERS.

SEAS: 3 TO 5 FEET BUT UP TO 9 FEET OFFSHORE IN MODERATE EASTERLY SWELLS OVER THE OCEAN.

 

CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS:

WEATHER: PARTLY SUNNY AND HOT WITH THE SLIGHT CHANCE OF A FEW PASSING SHOWERS. MOSTLY FAIR AND WARM TONIGHT.

ADVISORY: A SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT DUE TO SWELLS.

WINDS: EAST TO SOUTHEAST AT 10 TO 15 KNOTS, FALLING LIGHT AND VARIABLE AT TIMES OVER OPEN WATERS.

SEAS: 2 TO 4 FEET BUT UP TO 8 FEET OFFSHORE IN MODERATE NORTHEASTERLY SWELLS OVER THE OCEAN.

WEATHER: MOSTLY SUNNY AND HOT WITH THE SLIGHT CHANCE OF ISOLATED SHOWERS.           

WINDS: EAST TO SOUTHEAST AT 5 TO 10 KNOTS

SEAS: 1 TO 3 FEET BUT UP TO 9 FEET OFFSHORE IN EASTERLY SWELLS.    

 

FORECAST FOR  TUESDAY

WEATHER: PARTLY TO MOSTLY SUNNY AND HOT WITH THE CHANCE OF ISOLATED SHOWERS.

WINDS: EASTERLY AT 5 TO 10 KNOTS.

SEAS: 1 TO 3 FEET BUT UP TO 6 FEET IN EASTERLY SWELLS.

 

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK: SEE LATEST NEWS ITEMS ON HURRICANE PAULETTE, TROPICAL STORM SALLY AND TROPICAL DEPRESSION RENE AND 20. ELSEWHERE, THERE IS A SURFACE TROUGH OVER THE WEST-CENTRAL GULF OF MEXICO PRODUCING LIMITED SHOWER ACTIVITY AND HAS A LOW CHANCE OF 20 PERCENT FOR TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION THROUGH 5 DAYS. ANOTHER AREA OF DISTURBED WEATHER LOCATED NEAR AND WEST OF THE CABO VERDE ISLANDS IS SHOWING A HIGH CHANCE OF 70 PERCENT FOR TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION THROUGH 5 DAYS.
