BAHAMAS PUBLIC FORECAST

THIS IS THE BAHAMAS PUBLIC FORECAST FOR TONIGHT AND TOMORROW WEDNESDAY 16TH SEPTEMBER 2020 ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY AT 6 PM.

GENERAL SITUATION:  A WEAK PRESSURE PATTERN WILL CONTINUE TO DOMINATE WEATHER

CONDITIONS ACROSS THE COUNTRY.

SPECIAL WARNINGS: RESIDENTS ARE URGED TO REMAIN HYDRATED AND LIMIT OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES DUE TO HIGH HEAT INDICES EXPECTED TO REACH THE TRIPLE DIGITS ON THURSDAY.

WEATHER: MOSTLY FAIR AND WARM WITH A FEW POSSIBLE SHOWERS TONIGHT. PARTLY TO MOSTLY SUNNY AND HOT WITH THE CHANCE OF A FEW ISOLATED SHOWERS AND THE SLIGHT CHANCE OF AN ISOLATED THUNDERSTORM ON THURSDAY.

ADVISORY: SMALL CRAFT SHOULD BE ALERT FOR GUSTY WINDS AND HIGHER SEAS IN OR NEAR HEAVY SHOWERS OR THUNDERSTORMS.

WINDS: EAST TO SOUTHEAST AT 10 TO 15 KNOTS BUT FALLING LIGHT AND VARIABLE AT TIMES OVER OPEN WATER.

SEAS: 2 TO 4 FEET OVER THE OCEAN.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK: PLEASE SEE LATEST NEWS ITEMS ON TROPICAL STORM SALLY, LOCATED OVER THE FAR WESTERN PORTION OF THE FLORIDA PANHANDLE, HURRICANE TEDDY LOCATED OVER THE CENTRAL TROPICAL ATLANTIC AND TROPICAL STORM VICKY, LOCATED OVER THE EASTERN TROPICAL ATLANTIC. ELSEWHERE, THERE ARE THREE OTHER AREAS OF CONCERN. 1) A BROAD AREA OF LOW PRESSURE OVER THE SOUTHWESTERN GULF OF MEXICO CONTINUES TO BECOME BETTER ORGANIZED AND HAS A HIGH CHANCE OF 70 PERCENT FOR TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION THROUGH 5 DAYS. 2) ANOTHER AREA OF LOW PRESSURE LOCATED A FEW HUNDRED MILES SOUTH OF THE CABO VERDE ISLANDS HAS A HIGH CHANCE OF 70 PERCENT FOR TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION THROUGH 5 DAYS. 3) A NON TROPICAL AREA OF LOW PRESSURE IS LOCATED OVER THE FAR NORTHEASTERN ATLANTIC OCEAN A FEW HUNDRED MILES NORTHEAST OF THE AZORES. THIS SYSTEM HAS A LOW CHANCE OF ONLY 20 PERCENT FOR TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION THROUGH 5 DAYS.
