BAHAMAS PUBLIC FORECAST

THIS IS THE BAHAMAS PUBLIC FORECAST FOR TODAY AND TONIGHT MONDAY 28TH SEPTEMBER 2020 ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY AT 6 AM.

GENERAL SITUATION:  A WEAK PRESSURE PATTERN WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT LIGHT TO MODERATE WINDS, WHILE SOME TROUGHING PRODUCES POCKETS OF UNSETTLED WEATHER ACROSS THE ISLANDS TODAY.

SPECIAL WARNINGS: BOATERS SHOULD REMAIN VIGILANT FOR POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT ACTIVITY.

ALL AREAS

WEATHER: VARIABLE CLOUDINESS AND HOT WITH A FEW SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THE CHANCE OF ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS MAINLY OFFSHORE THROUGH TONIGHT.

ADVISORY: SMALL CRAFT SHOULD BE ALERT FOR GUSTY WINDS AND HIGHER SEAS IN OR NEAR HEAVY SHOWERS OR THUNDERSTORMS.

WINDS: EAST TO SOUTHEAST AT 10 TO 15 KNOTS OVER OPEN WATERS.

SEAS: 2 TO 4 FEET OVER THE OCEAN.

EXTENDED FORECAST: HIGH PRESSURE RIDGE WILL GRADUALLY SHIFT EASTWARDS THROUGH WEDNESDAY AHEAD OF A COLD FRONT THAT IS EXPECTED TO ENTER THE EXTREME NORTHWEST BAHAMAS ON WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON.

 

FORECAST FOR TUESDAY            

WEATHER: PARTLY CLOUDY, HOT AND A BIT BREEZY WITH A FEW SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THE CHANCE OF ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS.   

WINDS: SOUTHEAST TO SOUTH AT 15 KNOTS IN THE NORTHWEST AND CENTRAL BAHAMAS AND SOUTHEASTERLY AT 15 TO 20 KNOTS IN THE SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS.

SEAS: 3 TO 5 FEET IN THE NORTHWEST AND CENTRAL BAHAMAS AND 4 TO 6 FEET IN THE SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS.

 

FORECAST FOR  WEDNESDAY

WEATHER: PARTLY CLOUDY TO CLOUDY AND HOT WITH SCATTERED SHOWERS AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS.

WINDS: VARIABLE AT LESS THAN 10 KNOTS IN THE NORTHWEST AND CENTRAL BAHAMAS AND SOUTHEASTERLY AT 15 KNOTS IN THE SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS.

SEAS: 3 FEET OR LESS IN THE NORTHWEST AND CENTRAL AND BAHAMAS AND 3 TO 5 FEET IN THE SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS.

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK: A BROAD AREA OF LOW PRESSURE COULD FORM OVER THE WESTERN CARIBBEAN SEA IN A FEW DAYS.  SOME SLOW DEVELOPMENT IS POSSIBLE LATE THIS WEEK WHILE THE SYSTEM MOVES SLOWLY WEST-NORTHWESTWARD OVER THE NORTHWESTERN CARIBBEAN. THIS SYSTEM HAS A LOW CHANCE OF 20 PERCENT FOR TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION THROUGH 5 DAYS.
