NEWS ITEM ON HURRICANE PAULETTE ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY FORECAST OFFICE SECTION AT 6AM, MONDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER 2020. ...ENTIRE ISLAND OF BERMUDA INSIDE HURRICANE PAULETTE’S EYE…

…HURRICANE-FORCE WINDS AND TORRENTIAL RAINS TO RETURN FROM THE SOUTH AND SOUTHWEST SHORTLY DUE TO PAULETTE’S SOUTHERN EYEWALL…

AT 5AM EDT, THE CENTER OF HURRICANE PAULETTE WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 32.3° NORTH AND LONGITUDE 64.7° WEST OR DIRECTLY OVER BERMUDA.

PAULETTE IS MOVING TOWARD THE NORTH-NORTHWEST NEAR 12MPH (19 KM/H), AND THIS MOTION SHOULD CONTINUE EARLY THIS MORNING.

A TURN TOWARD THE NORTH IS EXPECTED BY LATE MORNING AND CONTINUE INTO THIS AFTERNOON.  A FASTER MOTION TOWARD THE NORTHEAST IS EXPECTED BY THIS EVENING AND CONTINUE THROUGH WEDNESDAY. 

ON THE FORECAST TRACK, THE EYE OF PAULETTE WILL CONTINUE TO PASS OVER BERMUDA DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS, FOLLOWED BY PASSAGE OF THE SOUTHERN PORTION OF THE EYEWALL. 

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS HAVE INCREASED TO NEAR 90 MPH (150 KM/H) WITH HIGHER GUSTS.  ADDITIONAL STRENGTHENING IS LIKELY WHEN PAULETTE TURNS NORTHWASTWARD AND MOVES AWAY FROM BERMUDA TONIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY.

...RENE JUST HANGING ON AS A TROPICAL DEPRESSION... 

AT 5AM EDT, THE CENTER OF TROPICAL DEPRESSION RENE WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 27.4° NORTH AND LONGITUDE 48.3° WEST OR ABOUT 1115 MILES NORTHEAST OF THE LEEWARD ISLANDS. 

THE DEPRESSION IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST NEAR 3 MPH (6 KM/H).  A FASTER MOTION TOWARD THE WEST-SOUTHWEST OR SOUTHWEST IS FORECAST TO BEGIN LATER TODAY AND CONTINUE THROUGH DISSIPATION. 

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 30 MPH (45 KM/H) WITH HIGHER GUSTS. WEAKENING IS FORECAST, AND RENE IS EXPECTED TO BECOME A REMNANT LOW LATER TODAY, AND DISSIPATE BY WEDNESDAY.

...NEW TROPICAL DEPRESSION FORMS OVER THE FAR EASTERN TROPICAL ATLANTIC…

…EXPECTED TO BE SHORT-LIVED... 

AT 6AM EDT, THE CENTER OF NEWLY FORMED TROPICAL DEPRESSION TWENTY-ONE WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 18.5° NORTH AND LONGITUDE 28.3° WEST OR ABOUT 330 MILES WEST-NORTHWEST OF THE CABO VERDE ISLANDS.  THE DEPRESSION IS MOVING TOWARD THE NORTH NEAR 6 MPH (9 KM/H).  AND THIS MOTION IS FORECAST TO CONTINUE INTO THIS AFTERNOON, FOLLOWED BY A TURN TOWARD THE NORTHWEST TONIGHT, WITH A WEST-NORTHWESTWARD MOTION EXPECTED ON TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY. 

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 35MPH (55KM/H) WITH HIGHER GUSTS. SOME SLIGHT STRENGTHENING COULD OCCUR TODAY AND TONIGHT, AND THE DEPRESSION COULD OCCUR TODAY AND TONIGHT, AND THE DEPRESSION COULD BRIEFLY BECOME A TROPICAL STORM DURING THAT TIME. WEAKENING IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN BY TUESDAY NIGHT, IF NOT SOONER, AND CONTINUE INTO WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY.

…EXPECTED TO BECOME A POWERFUL HURRICANE LATER THIS WEEK…

AT 5AM EDT, THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM TEDDY WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 13.4° NORTH AND LONGITUDE 40.4° WEST OR ABOUT 1405 MILES EAST OF THE LESSER ANTILLES.  TEDDY IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST NEAR 14 MPH (22 KM/H). 

A CONTINUED WEST-NORTHWESTWARD MOTION IS EXPECTED FOR THE NEXT DAY OR TWO FOLLOWED BY A TURN TOWARD THE NORTHWEST BY MID-WEEK.  MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 40 MPH (65KM/H) WITH HIGHER GUSTS. 

ADDITIONAL STRENGTHENING IS ANTICIPATED, AND TEDDY IS FORECAST TO BECOME A HURRICANE IN A COUPLE OF DAYS.  THE NEXT NEWS ITEM WILL BE ISSUED AT 12PM.

...SALLY LIKELY TO PRODUCE LIFE-THREATENING STORM SURGE, HURRICANE-FORCE WINDS, AND FLASH FLOODING ALONG PORTIONS OF THE NORTHERN GULF COAST STARTING LATE TODAY... 

AT 5AM EDT, THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM SALLY WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 28.3° NORTH AND LONGITUDE 87.3° WEST OR ABOUT 120 MILES EAST-SOUTHEAST OF THE MOUTH OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER.   

SALLY IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST NEAR 9 MPH (15 KM/H).  THIS GENERAL MOTION IS EXPECTED TODAY, FOLLOWED BY A DECREASE IN FORWARD SPEED AND A TURN TO THE NORTHWEST TONIGHT AND A NORTHWARD TURN SOMETIME ON TUESDAY. ON THE FORECAST TRACK, THE CENTER OF SALLY WILL MOVE OVER THE NORTH-CENTRAL GULF OF MEXICO TODAY, AND APPROAH SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA THIS AFTERNOON, AD MAKE LANDFALL IN THE HURRICANE WARNING AREA ON TUESDAY. 

AFTERWARD, SALLY IS EXPECTED TO MOVE SLOWLY NORTH-NORTHEASTWARD NEAR THE NORTHERN GULF COAST THROUGH WEDNESDAY.  MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 60 MPH (65 KM/H) WITH HIGHER GUSTS. STRENGTHENING IS EXPECTED OVER THE NEXT DAY OR SO, AND SALLY IS FORECAST TO BECOME A HURRICANE BY TONIGHT, WITH ADDITIONAL STRENGTHENING POSSIBLE BEFORE THE CENTER CROSSED THE NORTHERN GULF COAST.
