The Bahamas Department of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning from 11:25am until 2:25pm, Tuesday, May 5, 2015.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for the Exuma Cays, New Providence, Eleuthera, Berry Islands, Abaco and their adjacent waters.

At 11:15am observation, radar and satellite imagery show cluster of thunderstorms associated with a trough moving towards and over the aforementioned areas.

Some of these thunderstorms will be severe at times causing strong gusty winds, dangerous lightning, heavy downpours, hail and possible waterspout or tornadic activity.

Boaters in the warning area should seek safe harbour and residents in the warning area should stay indoors and away from windows when conditions worsen.

Residents should not seek shelter under trees or in water, as these can become lightning conductors.
