The Bahamas Department of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning from 8:00 pm Monday until 12:00 am Tuesday 28th April 2015.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Bimini, Grand Bahama, Abaco and the Berry Islands and their adjacent waters.

At 8pm satellite imagery shows clusters of thunderstorms associated with a frontal boundary moving east through the NW Bahamas.

Some of these thunderstorms will be severe at times causing strong gusty winds, dangerous lightning, heavy downpours, hail and possible waterspout or tornado activity. Residents can also expect flooding in low lying areas.

Boaters in the warning area should seek safe harbour and residents in the warning area should stay indoors and away from windows when conditions worsen. Residents should not seek shelter under trees or in water as these can become lightning conductors.
