The Bahamas Department of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning from 11:30am EDT until 1:00pm Monday 21st August 2017.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for the North and Central Andros, Eleuthera and Cat Island and their adjacent waters.

At 11:25am observation, radar and satellite imagery depicted a cluster/line of thunderstorms associated with a trough of low pressure approaching the mentioned islands.

Some of these thunderstorms will be severe at times causing strong gusty winds, dangerous lightning, heavy downpours, hail and possible waterspout or tornadic activity.

Boaters in the warning area should seek safe harbour and residents in the warning area should stay indoors and away from windows when conditions worsen. Residents should not seek shelter under trees or in water as these can become lightning conductors.
