Severe weather warning update - April 1

THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FROM 9:20 AM EDT UNTIL 11:20AM WEDNESDAY 01ST APRIL 2020.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR, SOUTH ABACO AND THE BERRY ISLANDS INCLUDING THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.

THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR BIMINI HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED.

AT 9:15 AM LIGHTNING DETECTOR, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY CONTINUED TO DEPICT A LINE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH A PRE-FRONTAL TROUGH MOVING EAST TO SOUTHEASTWARDS TOWARD THE WARNING AREAS.

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE STRONG TO SEVERE AT TIMES CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS THAT COULD LEAD TO LOCALIZED FLOODING, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN. RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
