FLIFF On Location: Grand Bahama Island Awards Ceremony and wrap party

Freeport, Grand Bahama Island - October 30th, 2011, high marks were given to the first ever film festival to take place on Grand Bahama Island by the international filmmakers, Bahamas Film Commissioner, Craig Woods; attendees and FLIFF On Location; Grand Bahama first Career Achievement Award recipient, actor Dennis Haysbert. Mr. Haysbert commented that he see's a bright future for subsequent festivals to take place on Grand Bahama Island.

A primary objective of The Ministry of Tourism for FLIFF On Location: Grand Bahama Island was to generate interest in Grand Bahama as a possible location for future films; judging from the positive responses from the filmmakers and in particular Dennis Haysbert during the familiarization tours, the prospects so far are quite favorable.

Due to FLIFF ON Location Grand Bahama Island being a new festival, the international films were not judged in competition; all participants were given certificates of merit for their submissions.

The winning film less than 30 minutes duration - POLITICKING IN PARADISE – Nathaniel Lewis, prize $500.00. 

Bahamian films were judged by the Blue Ribbon Panel on a scale of 1-to-10, with 10 being the best, based on the following criteria:


Cinematography
   -  Consider the director’s choices for shot and angles, lighting. Did they try to change ‘things’ up or were the shots static? How was the film visually? 

Editing
  -   Did the film flow? Did editing impact the film, making it better or worse? Was it smooth?

Sound
  -   Was the sound quality good? Were song selections good? How did sound impact film?

Storyline
-    Could you follow the ‘show?’ Did the director/writers lead you through the story?

Film as art
  -   Did the film have an artistic quality? Was it just a home movie, or was there more to it?

Special effects
  -   Were there special effects? Were attempts made to ‘spice’ up the film?

Subject
  -  Was the subject of the film worthwhile? Was it entertaining?

Creativity
    -  How much thought was behind the film? Was it ordinary, or more than that?

Intangibles
   -  Judges discretion

Overall
  -  How well would this film represent the inaugural FLIFF On Location:  Grand Bahama Island Film Competition?
