Two Bahamian Films Win Awards!

THE ARTIST drew four top awards: Best Picture, Best Director - Michael Hazanavicius, Best Actor - Jean Dujardin and Best Actress - Bernice Bejo. As winner of Best Film, THE ARTIST, received the prestigious Seashell Award, a trophy uniquely created by Uruguayan artist Jesus Sosa and presented each year by Professor Nelson Pilosof, President of The World Trade Center of Montevideo.

GB Youth Film Competition winning entry, "Cyberbullying" by Katrina Dorsett - Nov 10, 2011 - 7:18:12 AM

Budding filmmaker Katrina Dorsett was the winning entry of the inaugural Grand Bahama Youth Film Competition (GBYFC)
for her film
Cyber-Bullying.
The GBYFC was created as a component
to the 2011 inaugural FLIFF on Location: Grand Bahama to showcase young
filmmakers’ work from the island.
Katrina, a 14 year old student
from Bishop Michael Elden, focused on an internationally recognized
topic affecting young people around the world. She says,

up with peer pressure and bullying. If you have low self-esteem, you

The inaugural year of FLIFF on Location: Grand Bahama Island was a resounding success!
The initiative started a year prior when Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival (FLIFF) was invited to screen
Beneath the Blue in Freeport at the Regency
Theatre during their 25th festival season. This sparked the idea of having an "On
Location" 4-day segment for Grand Bahama Island.
A team of people from various walks of life were called to the Grand
Bahama Ministry of Tourism offices to help get the plan in motion. The
result was a well-run and highly appreciated festival by those who
attended, and by visiting tourists, actors and filmmakers who came from
as far away as Australia to enjoy film and camaraderie...

30th, 2011, High marks were given to the first ever film festival to take
place on Grand Bahama Island by the international filmmakers, Bahamas
Film Commissioner, Craig Woods; attendees and FLIFF On Location; Grand
Bahama first Career Achievement Award recipient, actor Dennis Haysbert.
Mr. Haysbert commented that he see's a bright future for subsequent
festivals to take place on Grand Bahama Island.
A primary objective of The Ministry of
Tourism for FLIFF On Location: Grand Bahama Island was to generate
interest in Grand Bahama as a possible location for future films;
judging from the positive responses from the filmmakers and in
particular Dennis Haysbert during the familiarization tours, the
prospects so far are quite favorable...

Career Achievement Award.
The
award ceremony took Friday, October 28th, 2011 at the
Canal House at Pelican Bay. The well attended event included a cross
section of Bahamian residents and international film industry producers,
directors, writers and actors that flew in from around the world
specifically to attend Grand Bahama Island's first ever Film Festival
and to scout out the island as a possible location for future
productions. Also in the audience was special guest, Patricia Poitier. The award was presented by Bahamas
Film Commissioner, Craig Woods.

Nathaniel Prince Lewis, one of Grand Bahama's
budding filmmakers, now has bragging rights for the best overall
Bahamian short film in the prestigious Fort Lauderdale International
Film Festival (FLIFF) on-Location hosted here over the weekend.
Politicking In Paradise, which is just under 30 minutes, was among 12
films made in Grand Bahama and New Providence that were submitted for
viewing.
The all–day viewing session took place on Saturday at the Canal
House, Pelican Bay Resort and the winner was announced yesterday at the

FLIFF on Location screening SCHEDULE for Grand Bahama - Oct 29, 2011 - 3:47:34 PM
“All Movies All
Day,” “All Access” and “Function Tickets” are now available for the Fort
Lauderdale International Film Festival on location at Grand Bahama
Island. In addition, organizers have released the full schedule of films
and special events to take place during the occasion, which will run
from Thursday, October 27 to Sunday, October 30.
In addition to two
workshops: Underwater Cinematography and Filmmaking in the Caribbean,
more than 25 films will be shown over three days during the inaugural
FLIFF On Location at the state of the art Canal House at Pelican Bay
Resort. Two films will be shown free of charge to the public in an
outdoor setting at Taino Beach and Count Basie Square.
All Access Passes are only $50 and available at Pelican Bay Hotel....

Films made in The Bahamas for FLIFF On Location – Grand Bahama Island - Oct 29, 2011 - 3:31:05 PM
Film Fans will have an
opportunity to view a variety of films made by Bahamians in the
Bahamas, the Ft. Lauderdale International Film Festival on Location,
scheduled for this weekend.
A total of twelve films ranging in duration from two minutes to
sixty-three minutes have been submitted for viewing all day on
Saturday, 29th October, 2011, at Canal House, Pelican Bay Resort. The
locally made films from Nassau and Grand Bahama include:
“Addicted”,
“Bui”, “Comin’ over Tonite”, “Jasmines”, “Knocking Duh Conch Style”,
“Politicking In Paradise”, “Salt Cay”, Shakespeare in Lytes”,

is a 2011 outreach initiative through the collaboration between the
Grand Bahama Ministry of Tourism and the Fort Lauderdale International
Film Festival, now in its 26th year. The event is set to kickoff this
Thursday, October 27th featuring a FREE for all event at Taino Beach park grounds with the outdoor screening of the family feature-length film,
Beneath the Blue which was shot entirely on Grand Bahama Island and much in a close proximity to the Taino Beach area in the Smith's Point settlement.

About Fifty at the Sunrise Civic Center Theater. The festival runs until November 22nd and this year features 4 days in
Grand Bahama Island from October 27th through the 30th with the Pelican
Bay Hotel Canal House as the host site.
In the audience was young Bahamian Katrina Dorsett of Freeport who won the Grand Bahama Youth Film competition and had her film

GRAND BAHAMA ISLAND - Members of the recently
appointed five-member Blue Ribbon Selection Panel are scheduled to review
submissions by Filmmakers of the Bahamas on Thursday October 14, 2011.
Ten films produced by local filmmakers
have been submitted in the short and full length feature categories.
Upon selection, they will be screened by Bahamas Film, Plays and Review
Board for approval for viewing by the public, at the inaugural Ft Lauderdale
Film Festival on Location in Grand Bahama. The film festival takes
place October 26 – 30 and the selected films will be featured on Saturday,
October 28 at the brand new state of the art Canal House at Pelican
Bay Hotel...

Festival ( FLIFF) On-Location is coming to Grand Bahama Island October
