FLIFF On Location Underway at Pelican Bay Hotel

Freeport Bahamas - Due to Hurricane Sandy, the outdoor screening and opening ceremony originally planned for this evening has been relocated to Canal House, Pelican Bay Hotel.

The Friday night screening of Sammy 2 planned for Port Lucaya Marketplace will now be screened on Sunday, October 28th at 7pm.

Tickets are on sale in foyer of Canal House at Pelican Bay Hotel.

FLIFF On Location: Grand Bahama Island is a 4-day event from October 25th through 28th. 

All Access passes are now on sale for FLIFF On Location: Grand Bahama Island and the other passes will be available onward from Monday, October 15th.

All Access Pass
$50 (All movies, Career Tribute, VIP Receptions, Awards and Wrap Party); All Movies Festival Pass $10; and All Movies - 1 Day Pass $7, and can be purchased at
the  Ministry of Tourism office at Fidelity Financial Centre, Poinciana Drive; or at the Pelican Bay Hotel reception.

Hosted at the Canal House, Pelican Bay Hotel, ‘FLIFF On Location: Grand Bahama Island will feature international and local films, outdoor screenings of Sammy 2: Escape from Paradise at Taino Beach and Port Lucaya Marketplace; presentation of a Career Achievement Award to Giancarlo Esposito, a filmmakers' workshop, location scouting for international filmmakers, and an awards presentation and
wrap party at the Grand Lucayan Resort. 

“We look forward to building on last year’s inaugural, and the visiting filmmakers are anxious for their upcoming visit to Grand Bahama Island,” said Mr. Gregory von Hausch, CEO, FLIFF.

"The purpose of the festival is to feature Grand Bahama Island as a film location of choice, with emphasis on proximity (to the United States), year-round good weather and an available crew base, and (to) build a strong international relationship with a tradition partner located nearby," said Craig Woods, Bahamas Film Commissioner.
 
There is something for everyone, and locals as well as visitors are encouraged to come out and be film buffs for the weekend. Not only will they see the work of acclaimed actors and directors, but they will be supporting the developing Bahamian film making industry. Guests of the Pelican Bay Hotel who book a FLIFF Package will receive an All Movies Festival pass!

(PASSES for this night are on a first come first served basis)

While helping a dozen or so hatchlings into the sea, Sammy and Ray are captured by poachers. Our heroes are sold to a hi-tech aquarium belonging to a restaurant. As soon as they get to the aquarium, Sammy and Ray start planning their escape, no easy task in this state-of-the-art facility.        


Friday, October 26th

Floridians are acutely aware of the situation that is the day in-day out life of people virtually imprisoned on the island of Cuba. The US embargo created a life in a bubble where remnants of the 1950's pervades existence. Living with just the modicum of convenience is not easy and escaping is fraught with peril.

Winter. Somewhere near the Canadian border on the U.S. side. A pair of robbers are on the run with bags of cash from a freshly held up casino. Not so far away, we meet Jay, a boxer who just finished doing time in the state pen and decides to head home to Ma 'n Pa for tomorrow's Thanksgiving. Pa is the retired sheriff and their homestead is quite a trek from civilization out in the snow covered country.

At 20, Ninah is a veteran wife of 7 years and a mother of 3. She is stuck in an abusive relationship with no hope of change. Her family lives off her meager earnings from farm work while her husband, Memfi, drinks away his equally meager earnings as a shepherd. When news of her gravely ill father reaches Ninah she decides to go speak her peace to her father even as her husband commands her to stay and get the farm ready before the rains come. Ninah disobeys Memfi by packing and attempting to leave.
