Plane crashes at Grand Bahama Shipyard, Dr. Myles Munroe among 9 reported dead

Freeport, Grand Bahama Island -  Shortly  after 5pm today a Lear jet crashed at the Grand Bahama Shipyard.  It was en route from Nassau.

Reports said that the plane clipped the side of a crane at the Shipyard and "exploded on impact". The weather was said to be a factor.

Reports said that the passengers were heading to Grand Bahama for the Global Leadership Forum scheduled for November 10th through 13th and hosted by Myles Munroe of Bahamas Faith Ministries International.

It has been confirmed that Dr. Myles Munroe, his wife and seven others perished in the crash.

Department of Civil Aviation issued a statement, confirming that a Lear 36 Executive Jet which departed the Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA) for the Grand Bahama International Airport at 4:07pm, crashed while making an approach for landing at Grand Bahama International Airport at 5:10pm.

The statement said: "The Department of Civil Aviation has been advised that there were some fatalities and we are awaiting confirmation from the Royal Bahamas Police Force as t o whether there were any survivors. The Grand Bahama Airport Company Crash Fire Rescue Department responded to the incident, and the Police and Bahamas Air Sea Rescue (BASRA) are presently on the scene."

A full scale investigation will commence tomorrow morning at daylight, which will include the Department of Civil Aviation Aircraft Accident Investigation Prevention Unit.

He had also been honoured by the government of the Bahamas with the Silver Jubilee Award (SJA) for providing twenty-five years of outstanding service to the Bahamas in the category of spiritual, social and religious development.
 
Pas. Myles was the senior pastor of Bahamas Faith Ministries International Fellowship, where his wife, Ruth Ann, serves as co-senior pastor. He was a proud parent of Charisa and Chairo (Myles Jr.).
