ANDERSON, South Carolina  – The International Stem Cell Society (STEMSO) has announced that several world-renown presenters in the regenerative medicine industry will speak at the global conference in the Bahamas and will demonstrate how promising adult stem cell methods are being translated into point of care therapies.

The STEMSO 2014 Conference titled, “Bridging the Gap: Research to Point of Care” will be held February 19-22, 2014 at the Grand Lucayan Resort and Hotel, Grand Bahama Island, near Freeport.

STEMSO, a 501 (c) 6 trade association, will promote the global adult stem cell industry through this conference by bringing together medical scientists, clinicians, regulatory experts, and investors to discuss innovative approaches and clinical protocols for increasing access of adult stem cell therapies to patients in a responsible manner.

Paolo Macchiarini, M.D., Ph.D., a world-renowned thoracic surgeon and regenerative medicine pioneer in research and tissue engineering concerning intrathoracic organs and tissues, will speak from 9:15 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2014. Dr. Macchiarini will present The Current State of Translational Regenerative Medicine and will discuss his bench to bedside research, long-term clinical results, and his initial results for other intrathoracic (esophagus, diaphragm, heart and/or lung) organ regeneration. Dr. Macchiarini was recently successful in performing the first human tissue engineered tracheal transplantation using biologic or artificial scaffolds, the patient’s own bone marrow derived stem cells, and bioactive molecules.

Craig Cady, Ph.D., Director of the Stem Cell Research Laboratory at Bradley University, will speak at 9:30 am to 10:15 am on Saturday, February 22. His topic will be Progress Towards a Stem Cell Based Therapy for Ovarian Cancer. Working with bone marrow and human umbilical stem cells, Dr. Cady’s goal is to help patients suffering from disease or injury with promising stem cell transplants.

Adeeb Al-Zoubi, M.D., Ph.D., the CEO of Stem Cells of Arabia in Amman, Jordan, will speak at 2:30 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. on Friday, February 21. His topic, Utilization of Autologous Stem Cells in Treatment of Chronic Diseases: The Jordanian Method, describes how he is able to obtain highly pure autologous populations of stem cells in a safe and effective manner and uniquely utilize them to treat incurable human illnesses.

"STEMSO will continue to provide a proactive and positive voice for organizations and jurisdictions using adult stem cells for therapies and transplants,” states Douglas Hammond, President of STEMSO. “The Common Wealth of the Bahamas provides an excellent example of the results that can be brought about with realistic, modern, and balanced regulations that serve the national economic interest, patient needs for life-saving medicine, and the business investment sector."

"Our list of esteemed presenters and facilitating organizations are providing the best evidence of the successful treatment of human patients. Time and opportunities are running out for nations who fail to pass cogent regulatory pathways regarding stem cell based medicine,” says Hammond.”

The complete agenda and speaker biographies can be found on the organization’s website at www.stemso.org. Other speakers include stem cell researchers, scientists and practitioners from around the world with leading discoveries in the field as well as investors in the healthcare space.

Registration is open for attending and exhibiting on STEMSO’s website.
