The General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS) expresses its deep concern over the recent threats to the leader of the Soy Venezuela party María Corina Machado.

In effect, the regime has tried to link her to a supposed action by 20 members of the military against regime figures.

These acts of intimidation against María Corina Machado are based on testimony extracted from these members of the military under torture.

This is another demonstration of the systematic and generalized strategy employed by the dictatorship to persecute, intimidate, and arbitrarily detain those who express opinions against the regime.

These new acts against an opposition figure reinforce the conclusion of political persecution. Moreover, the General Secretariat demands a guarantee of the freedom and safety of Machado and reminds the regime that these actions are unacceptable to the international community.
