ELEUTHERA ISLAND, The Bahamas- The new $85 million Cape Eleuthera Resort & Yacht Club was awarded the prestigious Blue Flag certification for its marina by the non-profit Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) based in Denmark. The marina achieved this certification for exceeding standards relevant to sustainable development and environment responsibility.   Transcending 23 areas of strict criteria covering Environmental Education and Information, Environmental Management, Safety and Services and Water Quality, Cape Eleuthera received the Blue Flag for appreciating the value of the marine ecosystem and how it affects the future social and economic development of the islands.

The Blue Flag program, the largest and most recognized certification program world-wide with the participation of some 37 countries globally was established in Europe in 1987. This initiative is endorsed and supported by the following international organizations: The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO);   The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP); The World Conservation Union; International Lifesaving Federation and the International Council of Marine Industry Association.

“We are honored to achieve this internationally recognized certification, especially as Cape Eleuthera is the third to receive the Blue Flag out of 64 total marinas in The Bahamas,” Cape Eleuthera’s General Manager Stephen Kappeler said.   “The Bahamas now hosts more accredited marinas than any other country in the Caribbean.”

Earlston McPhee, Director of Sustainable Tourism Planning with the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism said that “We are collaborating with a number of agencies to ensure that all marinas operating in The Bahamas operate to standards which protects the marine ecosystems that is so important to the economic sustainability of these islands. I congratulate the management of Cape Eleuthera Resort for achieving this prestigious certification which is in the best interest of the resort, its customers and the islands of The Bahamas”

Easily accessible and accommodating vessels with depths of up to 35 feet, the state-of-the-art Cape Eleuthera Marina offers guests information on the naturally sensitive nearby land and marina areas, recycling facilities and safe storage of hazardous wastes and integrates with the surrounding natural environment, like few others in the Out Islands.   The 25-acre deep-water facility offers three-phase power, services and amenities from yacht provisioning to repairs whether guests are seeking a quick stop to refuel, an overnight stay, long term mooring or yacht management.   Due to the unique 20’ wide flushing channel in the 360-degree surge proof marina, the basin remains crystal-clear at all times.   A configured lead-in channel “breaks” wave action and ensures the security of every craft.

Offering full utilities (30,50 and 100-amp service) and two fueling stations with high-speed pumps and triple-filtered Shell fuel, the Cape Eleuthera Marina is the perfect place to dock.   The Cape Eleuthera Marina provides yacht guides, charts and maps, tournament-class fishing charters, boat rentals and local fishing and tour guides.   Marina facilities include two fish-cleaning stations and a covered lanai with a barbeque grill.

Cape Eleuthera Resort & Yacht Club boasts one of the largest marinas in the Out Islands of The Bahamas and features 19 two-bedroom, luxury oceanview mariner townhomes as resort accommodations with spacious living areas and sunset and sunrise views over the Caribbean Sea beyond.

Unlike other tourist destinations in The Bahamas, undeveloped and authentic Cape Eleuthera is a world apart, having no crowded markets, busy bazaars and high-rise hotels, only miles upon miles of pristine beaches, undisturbed fishing villages and mysterious lagoons.   Located on a private, 4,500-acre peninsula on Eleuthera Island, no other developments or resorts will infringe upon Cape Eleuthera, ensuring that guests will always have miles of natural environment to explore.
