Freeport, Grand Bahama - Over the past five Saturdays art students were inspired by the beautiful
scenery at Garden of the Groves while their instructor, Angelika
Siska, lectured and advised them how to use their paint brushes with
acrylics on canvas to create their own master pieces in nature.
Angelika is a long-time resident of Grand Bahama and a well known artist in
Germany and the United States where she has exhibited in art shows. Titles of her
recent exhibitions in Germany and Kentucky have been "Butterflies, Blossoms
and Landscapes" and local art students are very fortunate to be given the
opportunity to share in Angelika's expertise. This is the second year that
Angelika has given of her time and talent to conduct an art workshop at the
Garden for art and nature enthusiasts...
A new blog has been set up for cycling routes on Grand Bahama Island by Walter Strauss. If you are a cycling enthusiast or wish to become one, this helpful blog will give you some routes to get started.
The blog, www.GrandBahamaBikeRoutes.blogspot.com offers 5 maps of routes to begin your cycling sightseeing adventures. Although most routes have no bike signage you can print the maps and follow along.
Strauss says, "Grand Bahama is one of the nicest places to bike.....if you stay off the main roads! Fortunately there are some great "through the neighborhood routes" that can get you from downtown to some great destinations like Banana Bay, Garden of the Groves, Barbary Beach, Dover Sound. All of these routes were discovered using Google Maps. The street maps of the island are not reliable as many of the streets on the maps don't exist but the Google satellite image is pretty clear.
One of the finest places in The Bahamas to commune with nature, the Garden of the Groves, now also houses a beautiful recreation of an ancient sacred path — The Grand Bahama Labyrinth — where visitors of all faiths can walk and reflect on healing, peace, meditation, prayer, our connection to the Divine, and our connection to one another.
This historical monument was founded and created in 2008 by Barbara Chester and the Community of Grand Bahama Island, with the invaluable help and creative guidance of Robert Ferre & Judy Hopen of Labyrinth Enterprises, Limited.

Freeport, Bahamas - Saturday, March 6th on the beautiful Sacred Path in the Garden of the Groves a most
appreciative audience were delighted by the magic of the ‘Evening with
Marjoke and Friends’ who all performed from their hearts, vocalising
the true spirit of the Labyrinth.
Our Dutch Diva, Marjoke Twiestopened the show with a beautiful recital of "People", reminding us that life is all about....people!
Marjoke was joined in turn by her special 'music friends' performing some of our favourite songs...
Freeport, Bahamas - During the recent months the Garden has added several new animal
attractions and we would like to introduce two of them to our friends and
visitors.
A
flock of White-cheeked Pintails have become quite at home at the Garden
of the Groves. They are commonly called Bahama Ducks and they were
recently donated to the Garden by Mr. Pericles Maillis on behalf of the
Bahamas National Trust.
There
is the new Bahamian Raccoon Exhibit which has been placed in the
childrens' playground as the younger set is especially attracted to
these little creatures! Raccoons look cuddly but are quite fierce and
aggressive when handled. They are clever and immediately associate
humans with food when one approaches the enclosure...

Grand Bahama, The Bahamas – Am I on
The Bachelorette or is this a bad case of TV deja vu?
The
pale aqua ocean, deserted beach and sleek black horse all look
strangely familiar. My lithe female guide, Leo, the owner of Trikk
Pony, confirms it.
Secluded Barbary Beach on Grand Bahama,
the fourth-largest island in the Bahamian archipelago, is where
Bachelorette DeAnna rode horses with Jesse on
The Bachelorette Season 4, and I'm about to re-create the ride.
The
only thing is, I'm not sure I want to. When I'd originally signed up
I'd misunderstood the program and thought I'd be swimming with
seahorses...

Those who attended Circle
of Life on the Labyrinth at the Garden of the Groves Saturday night
enjoyed a lovely show, possibly the best yet, with some beautiful singing,
dancing, poetry monologues, and a slide show of shelter animals which
was beautifully accompanied by Marjoke Twiest’s rendition of “In
the Arms of the Angels”.
About 100 people were treated
to a first class production with a great deal of professionalism helped
by Darren Rollins working lights, sound and projection.
The weather stayed dry and
the moon peeped out of its eclipse just above the trees, providing a
beautiful backdrop for the end of the show...

Grand Bahama Labyrinth Peace Walk held at the Grand Bahama Labyrinth for Haiti - Jan 26, 2010 - 1:14:36 AM Freeport, Bahamas -On January 22nd Labyrinth walks were being conducted all over
the world in response to this human suffering following the earthquakes
in Haiti. There are reports of walks from the Pacific Northwest, to
the mid west, to St. Croix, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and our
own Grand Bahama. Indeed, the labyrinth is enfolding the World in her
skirts of peace, comfort and compassion.
We held our Walk yesterday in honour of Haiti on our Sacred Path in the
Garden of the Groves. The Labyrinth was surrounded by low level solar
lights and tiki
torches set in the jasmine.
