Walking the path: Young visitor Christoph Reichert walks the Grand Bahama Labyrinth at The Garden of the Groves. The Labyrinth can be viewed during The Garden of the Groves public 1-hour guided tours each weekday at 10am or 2pm. Facilitated Labyrinth Walks will soon be available in September for those persons needing guidance. The Garden of the Groves will officially open to the public on October 1st and the Labyrinth will then be available for use any time during park hours.

Grand Bahama Island - A Labyrinth is a sacred healing tool; a place of beauty where you can reconnect with your Divine Creator, Mother Earth and your own soul.     It is a place to calm, centre and rebalance your body and mind and receive guidance and blessings of love and peace.

A Labyrinth can be walked, skipped or even danced…..it provides a quiet, holy place – a nirvana - for reflection, meditation, supplication and celebration.

The Grand Bahama Community has now created a wonderful gift for itself; the magnificent Chartres-style Labyrinth, gloriously located in the beautifully restored Garden of the Groves.

The land supporting the Labyrinth had been awaiting its arrival; the exact piece of ground, perfect in dimension and location near the little Church, presented itself to us!

The creatures were waiting and have warmly welcomed it!    Indeed, many were inspecting every part of the construction and installation; and the butterflies and hummingbirds were hovering above the centre as soon as the covering was removed. (The braver butterflies had performed an earlier fly-past under the tent!).    A turtle had come ashore, even before the base was cemented, and laid her eggs at the designated place of entry to the Labyrinth.   We are not sure if the babies walked the Path before returning to their stream, but they were among our many blessings.

We shall certainly plan a special St. Francis Walk on 4th October!

Now, this week, with the great help of Gaby and her team from Lucaya Nursery, and the ongoing support of Erika Gates and Michelle Hansom and their wonderful team, we are starting the landscaping and beautifying of our Labyrinth Garden in which, with the help of Blue Water Pools and Dr. Kevin Bethel, we are creating a Lily Pond for reflection.    We will be providing natural shade and seating for people wishing to contemplate and journal in this ‘sacred garden space’ which will be entered through a beautiful Arbour.

Much of the work and some materials have been gifted, including the actual piece of land in the Garden of the Groves on which we have our Labyrinth and Garden (thank you Erika and Michelle); there are still, however, many bills to meet and funding needed to complete this Historical Community project.

Everyone gifting time, talent, materials and funding will be known as an ‘Illuminator’.    All names will be carved in stone in the Labyrinth Garden of Healing and Peace for the Community.
