CHTA grand travel showcase brings together Caribbean travel suppliers and global travel wholesalers in two days of face-to-face business meetings
Nassau, Bahamas - The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) kicked off its three-day Caribbean Travel Marketplace this week at the Grand Hyatt Convention Center at Baha Mar Resort. The first few hours into the first day of Marketplace were filled with presentations, a networking session, entertainment and one big check, presented by the Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism, Hon. Edmund Bartlett, to The Bahamas’ Minister of Tourism & Aviation, Hon. Dionisio D'Aguilar.
According to Hon. Edmund Bartlett, the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA) and The Global Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management Centre (GTRCM) are providing US$100,000, on behalf of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), in support of the hurricane ravaged tourism economies of The Bahamas and other areas in the Caribbean that may be impacted in the future. The JHTA and the GTRCM have contributed US$20,000 to assist in relief efforts through the United Nations World Tourism Organization.
“This donation symbolizes the Centre’s commitment to assisting tourism-dependent states that are vulnerable to disruptions to recover and rebound,” said Minister Bartlett.
Minister D’Aguilar stated, “The Bahamas government and the Ministry of Tourism are forever grateful for the donations by Jamaica and the United Nations Development Program. This contribution will continue to help with the rebuilding of our northern islands which are steadily bouncing back.”
The Global Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management Centre's mission includes assisting global tourism destinations with destination preparedness, management and recovery from disruptions and/or crises that affect tourism and threaten economies and livelihoods globally.
The Caribbean Travel Marketplace at the Baha Mar Resort is set to host the region’s tourism suppliers, affording them the opportunity, over the course of two business days, to meet face-to-face with wholesalers from around the world who sell Caribbean vacation travel.
