Abaco, Bahamas: The Abaco Christmas Festival saw a record number of attendees this year, according to Wynsome Ferguson, Manager of the Abaco Tourist Office.

“Several thousand people would have visited the festival grounds throughout the day and evening on Saturday, keeping close to 40 vendors very busy and happy,” Ferguson said.

Ferguson also said that there is a reason this festival is one of the most anticipated events.

“Vendors were happy as they made extra funds for their Christmas shopping, while patrons were able to purchase a variety of Christmas gifts and enjoy not only the festival but the product offerings. The kids especially enjoyed photos with Santa and Mrs. Clause, a surprise visit from Mickey and Minnie Mouse and of course the free gifts.”

Abaconians came from near and far to open the Christmas season, this past Saturday at the BAIC Park in Marsh Harbour and the Christmas spirit was felt throughout the grounds.

The day was filled with vibrant Bahamian entertainment such as the Royal Bahamas Police Force Pop and Marching Band, New Entry Band and Soul Man Gary McDonald. The kids were thoroughly entertained with several competitions and not to mention the free toy giveaway from Baker’s Bay Golf and Ocean Club.

Many of the island’s most popular food vendors at the festival have been a part of the festival since the very start. Crystal Ferguson owner of Crystal Snack Shack is one of them.

“I’ve been here for 15 years and every year there’s a new vendor, different food and the festival has grown tremendously,” she said.

Among the veterans of the Christmas Festival, there were also some new faces like Tanya Outten, the owner of Bake Bahamas who enjoyed her time.

“This is our very first time participating in the Abaco Christmas Festival and so far, business has been pretty good. We’ve just been trying to promote awareness and visibility of our product, especially leading into the holidays,” she said.

The Christmas Festival also attracted several tourists who were either staying in resorts or on their sailboats.

One tourist, Naomi Long said she loved the community efforts.

“I love how the community comes together and shares all of this together. They have different booths, so you can try different things from different people. It’s really nice, I’m glad we heard about this, I love it,” she said.
