Grand Bahama Island - The Bahamas Nature Tour Guide class put on by the Ministry of Tourism and Aviation and the Bahamas National Trust began on the 22nd of March and wrapped up with a Graduation ceremony on the evening of 28th March, 2012.

Karen Seymour, Director of the Ministry of Tourism and Aviation, Grand Bahama congratulated the graduates saying she was very proud of the dedication of the students taking time out of their busy schedules and working full time while they did the course.

Course facilitator and lecturer, Predensa Moore said, “It was a wonderful group of enthusiastic, interested persons that will take the nature tour business further ahead on Grand Bahama.”  This class was the largest and received the highest test scores yet for a Bahamas Nature Tour Guide class.

“This was perhaps the best course I have been engaged in.  It is so refreshing to see that there are Bahamians that share my passion for history, culture and most importantly “nature”.  This will certainly go a long way in helping to preserve The Bahamas naturally for generations unborn”, said Jeffrey Pinder, participant from Bahamas Interisland Tours.

Erika Gates  of Grand Bahama Nature Tours gave a presentation on "Sustainable Nature and Birding Tourism on Grand Bahama Island".

The fifteen graduates include:  Cecilia Bodie, Bahamas National Trust, David Clare, Bahamas National Trust, Leroy Darling, Grand Bahama Nature Tours, Alexander Dumas, Grand Bahama Nature Tours, Michael Flowers, Bahamas National Trust, Tara Lightbourn, Grand Bahama Catholic High School, Dwayne Marshall, Grand Bahama Nature Tours, Joanna Parotti, Grand Bahama Nature Tours, Jeffrey Pinder, Bahamas Interisland Tours, Shamie Rolle, Calabash EcoAdventures, Dale Russell, Grand Bahama Nature Tours, Bradley Rutherford, Grand Bahama Nature Tours, Rudy Sawyer, Blue Green Adventures, Lisa Wildgoose, Bahamas National Trust, and Gail Woon, EARTHCARE.

In addition to the many hours of class time in the evenings the participants had to get up in the early dawn hours to go in the field to learn how to identify the different birds, animals and plants found in our different habitats on Grand Bahama.

After certificates were presented the students presented the main facilitators with laser prints (by Freeport Advertising and Printing) of original artwork depicting the Great Blue Heron, the Cuban Emerald Hummingbird and red passion flower by Gail Woon and Candice Woon, members of EARTHCARE.  The numbered and signed prints were also signed by all of the students to be keepsakes for the teachers.
