The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism has launched an innovative online honeymoon registry that allows family and friends of couples to aid in planning an enjoyable honeymoon getaway in The Bahamas.

The registry allows for guests to purchase credit for accommodations, water sports, nightlife, fine and casual dining, sightseeing and even shopping.

Director of Weddings and Romance in the Ministry of Tourism Freda Malcolm said the honeymoon registry has been in high demand from brides and grooms around the world.

“As a result of the many inquiries that we have been receiving for honeymoon items such as spas, snorkeling, diving, sailing and dinner cruises, we have decided to upload our newest element for Bahamas honeymoons and that is The Bahamas Honeymoon Registry,” she said.

As an example, Hollis Cosmetics and Spa is one of the vendors that will be partnering with the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism.

“You will also have other vendors who will benefit from the honeymoon registry. For example, you may have someone who wants to have dinner at Atlantis, Graycliff or Lucianos,” Ms. Malcolm said.

“You log on to the Honeymoon Registry via Bahamas.com/Weddings and you have the option to create your own wedding website then there are sample registries that will guide you through how to set up your specific honeymoon registry.”

Items on the website start from as low as $50.

“All of the money that couples will be receiving as a result of the registry will be loaded onto a card. When they get in the Islands of The Bahamas, they can then decide how they would like to use it,” Ms. Malcolm said.

The weddings director said the ministry has had “great reception” from vendors over the initiative.

“People are really wanting to be a part of this. They see the importance of the honeymoon registry. The reason why the honeymoon registry is really important is because there are some couples with friends and family who do not wish to give gifts in their local state and so they can go online and give their $50 or $100,” Ms. Malcolm said.

“We are hoping that soon we will have some 100 vendors who will partner with the Ministry of Tourism to help make this a success. But the interest has been phenomenal.”

The Bahamas Honeymoon Registry follows the ministry’s “16 Islands, 16 Weddings, One Priceless Day” promotion.

The promotion that takes place on January 16, 2015 at 16:00 (4:00 p.m.) will see 16 couples out of the United States get married simultaneously.
