FREEPORT, GRAND BAHAMA - For the first time ever, Grand Bahama will
host a fishing tournament like none the island’s seen before! April
24th- 27th, 2014, anglers from throughout the United States will travel
to beautiful Grand Bahama to participate in Extreme Kayak Fishing’s
‘Battle In The Bahamas’.
Extreme Kayak Fishing’s ‘Battle In The
Bahamas’ is a two-day game-fishing tournament in “one of the most
beautiful places in the world”. But unlike traditional fishing
tournaments where anglers venture to sea on boats, this tournament
calls for kayaks [and even paddleboards]. The last tournament that took
place in Pompano Beach on September 27th, 2013 attracted some 82 anglers
that traveled from various states including; Georgia, North Carolina
and Texas.
Anglers will definitely be in for a treat with this
second tournament in the Extreme Kayaking 2014 series, as our waters are
known for big game fish including mahi-mahi/dorado, wahoo, billfish,
and the ever-fierce tuna. So far, there are 60 registered participants,
including one Bahamian resident, and coordinators Joe and Maria Hector,
expect several more participants to hop on board.
The Bahamas’
Ministry of Tourism, and the Grand Bahama Island Tourism Board are proud
to sponsor this event, as it presents a great opportunity to display
the island’s appeal as a big game fishing destination. The island’s
economy can expect an additional boost from this and similar events to
come! Bahamian Brewery & Beverage Company will also be sponsoring
this event, keeping contestants cool with lots of Sands Beer!
