ATLANTA, GA- Connecting the Atlanta
Market to one of The Bahamas’ premier destinations just got easier! Beginning
November 2nd, Delta Airlines will increase its direct air service to
Grand Bahama Island for a second consecutive year, adding daily flights for the
winter and spring seasons to its inventory. With increased airlift on
Saturday’s, beginning in February of 2015, continuing through April, Atlantan’s
will have the opportunity to fly direct to Grand Bahama in time for the start
of the first annual Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival!
The Bahamas Tourist office and the
Grand Bahama Island Tourism Board set out on a three day Sales and Public
Relations blitz, sensitizing the Atlanta travel market, media houses and
industry partners to the availability and accessibility of Grand Bahama Island
as the perfect international vacation destination. While in Atlanta, the
Tourism contingent teamed up with the Bahamas National Festival Commission. Under
the leadership of Mr. Roscoe Dames CEO, the Commission launched The Bahamas
Junkanoo Carnival 2015, to introduce and ready the Atlanta market for what will
be the Caribbean’s newest and hottest spring festival. Together the team made
appearances on WAEC Love860AM, Radio One’s My Praise Atlanta, Hot 107.9, MAJIC
107.5 and CBS TV Atlanta Plugged In.
With what has become a renaissance
for the island’s tourism economy, the year 2014 has
experienced significant growth with respect to airlift. Among this year’s high
markers are; the arrival of Sunwing Airlines direct service out of six Canadian
cities, many for the first time this winter, yielding 21,143 visitor arrivals, and Vacation Express, non-stop direct service fromfive (5) U. S. cities this spring and adding five (5) more during the
months of August, September and October for a total of ten (10) new gateways. Additionally,
air arrivals have
increased by 33.2% over the same time last year; while additional rooms have
been added to the inventory, with the opening of the islands newest all-inclusive, Memories Grand Bahama Beach Resort
and Casino in February.

With
Delta once again providing direct service. The increase in air services by Delta
Airlines is additional good news for the Island destination, providing
opportunities for more persons to visit Grand Bahama and discover all the
Island has to offer as a Grand destination.
The
first Annual Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival is scheduled to kick off in Grand Bahama
April 17th-18th. The party will continue May 7th-9th
in Nassau.
