NASSAU, Bahamas - Social bloggers helped tell the story of
The Bahamas, sending numerous tweets about the country as they visited
Nassau as part of SeaTweetUp – a social media cruise aboard the Norwegian
Sky.
While in Nassau on Sunday, the Ministry of Tourism, Bahamas Out Islands
Promotion Board and Bahamas National Trust collaborated to host 34 bloggers
to a Bahamian breakfast and presentation on the islands of the Bahamas.
From the presentation site at BNT’s Retreat, the bloggers tweeted
and uploaded posts and pictures.
As she welcomed the bloggers, Ministry of Tourism’s Sr. Director
for Communications, Geneva Cooper, told the bloggers about the Ministry’s
social media work.
“Our Facebook page, Bahamas Travel, has well over 369,000 likes
and at his moment, more than 10,000 fans are talking about us,” she
said as the bloggers applauded. “We have a group of dedicated individuals
who ensure that our friends and fans get information and visuals that
help them get involved with our projects and programs. Through our facebook
page, thousands have been able to find out about and secure instant
rebates such as the $300 instant savings on fall and winter air-inclusive
packages that was just reposted on Wednesday. By the way, the offer
is good through November 12.”
Ms. Cooper also explained how The Bahamas’ social media team
is engaging the online community through twitter. The 7,500 twitter
followers for @VisitTheBahamas are kept updated on Bahamas developments
through the online channel, she said.
“So, for The Islands of The Bahamas, social media has been a great
blessing,” she said. “Now that you are with us, we hope that you
will join our networks and keep your fans, followers and friends linked
to the important developments here.”
BNT executives Lynn Gape and Eric Carey gave a presentation on The
Bahamas’ national parks system before giving a tour of the 11-acre
Retreat at Village Road. Raymond Francis, executive director of the
Bahamas Out Islands Promotion Board, explained that Nassau/Paradise
Island is just one of the destinations of The Bahamas, and he offered
more information on the Family Islands.
The bloggers wound down their day trip with visits to four Nassau
museums – Doongalik, National Art Gallery of the Bahamas, Popop
Studios and Hillside House.
