Freeport, Grand Bahama Island - This is an
exciting month for the Ministry of Tourism, as we culminate a year of
celebrating 50 years of the establishment of tourism promotion, which
commenced January 2014.
This final leg of 50 years of Tourism is Married to Tourism Week,
where there will be a variety of initiatives taking place through out
the islands.
Grand Bahama Island kicked off its tourism awareness initiatives on
Friday, January 16th with the rest of the country with the 16 island
wedding promotion. Our couple from Ohio wed at Sanctuary Bay to the
backdrop of dolphins.
We begin this week of awareness by educating, celebrating and serving
the industry and community at large and most importantly, our team will
worship together and give thanks with our industry partners and cacique
finalists, on Sunday, February 1st.
Today, we begin educating our 6 – 12th graders through a school
speakers circuit, the topic – Tourism, 50 Golden Years, The Best is yet
to come.
Tuesday, we will celebrate and introduce our Cacique finalists in the
Count Basie Square from 6-8 pm. The community is encouraged to come out
and celebrate this accomplishment.
Thursday, the ministry of tourism staff in conjunction with student
from the school hospitality school programme, will serve and honour our
retired industry ambassadors, at a special luncheon.
Friday, select staff will travel to Nassau to be honoured at government house for long service.
Saturday, the finale, the Cacique awards will be held at the Meliá resort.
Sunday, February 1st, team Grand Bahama will worship and give thanks with Cacique “winners” and industry partners.
