Freeport, Grand Bahama, Bahamas - On Saturday, October 24th nine Ross University Bahamas students participated in giving free health screenings at the Marco City Urban Renewal Centre in Freeport.

The event was organized by Mrs. Myrtle Cartwright, the Centre manager.  Nurses from the Rand Memorial Hospital also participated, those being Kathy Saunder, Debra Smith and coordinator, Yvonne Clarke.

"We are pleased to have had Ross University assisting us. The community enjoyed having them here and the students not only performed the tests, they also helped educate us on good health maintenance and awareness," said Mrs. Cartwright.

The Centre runs health screening for the local constituency every three months and persons were able to come out between 10am and 2pm to have their blood pressure, cholesterol, sugar, and weight checked.

The Ross students volunteered their time in two 2-hour shifts. Students who participated  were
Rich Chan , Daniel Ezekwudo , Glynn Faircloth , Yunan Wang, Rebecca Charland, Jennifer Lee, Rachel Lacy, Christopher Hancock, and Latha Jayakumar .

"I felt the health screening went very well. It was beneficial for both the community and the Ross students. It was great to put all the skills and knowledge we are learning  in school to use in real life and actually get out into the community and meet people," said Ross student Latha Jayakumar.

Assisting at the Marco City Urban Renewal Center are facilitator Judy Russell, and assistants Veronica Kemp, and Chenana Gibson.
