Freeport, Grand Bahama Island - Ross University Bahamas is pleased to announce the appointment of Bahamian, Londell Albury, as their new executive administrator at the Freeport site effective immediately. The announcement was made by Hal McCulloch, PhD., senior vice president administration at Ross University Bahamas

"Londell, who has excelled in his previous role as director information technology, will oversee administration of the Medical Education Review Program (MERP), said Dr. McCulloch, “including administrative management of the staff and faculty in Freeport. He will ensure the high quality standards for the program are sustained and continuously improved...”

Freeport, Grand Bahama Island - On March 22nd Ross University  Bahamas Clinical Site held a Pathology Conference on Tumor Immunology. The event was presented by the student Pathology Club and was sponsored by the Osler Society.

Local physicians Dr. John Clement and Dr. Kevin Bethel from the Immune Augmentation Therapy Clinic were guest speakers at the event.

Freeport, Grand Bahama Island - On February 16th the students, faculty and staff of Ross University Bahamas gathered to register as potential blood donors for the community of Grand Bahama.

The initiative began through the coordination of two Ross medical students, Stacey O'Brien and Chris Hancock who are co-directors of the SMP Health Initiative at Ross, which sponsored the database registration and health fair.

The Bahamas Weekly was on hand to get an Video overview of the new initiative. In this video you will hear from both Stacey O'Brien and Chris Hancock, as well as from Dr. Josephine Bartlett of Grand Bahama Health Services. We also provide a demonstration of how the Ross students learn how to draw blood in their simulation centre....

Freeport, Grand Bahama Island -  Ross University Bahamas students, faculty and staff gathered for a Thanksgiving meal on November 26th, 2009. This was Ross University's first Thanksgiving in The Bahamas. 

Earlier in the semester the Ross Student Government Association planned the event thinking it would be a nice idea to hold a special gathering as many American students and teaching faculty would not have the opportunity to be home with their families on the special holiday.

Making the event extra special the students, faculty and staff also donated food items for the less fortunate. Members of the Grand Bahama Children's Home were invited prior to the meal for a formal presentation of food items collected for the home...

Prior to his appointment, Dr. Munroe lived in Chicago and successfully served as president of Advocate Trinity Hospital and was named one of the Top 25 minority healthcare executives in the United States by Modern Healthcare Magazine. He has served as president of St. John Detroit Riverview Hospital in Detroit, Michigan and as president and chief executive officer of the Economic Opportunity Family Health Center, in Miami, Florida.

Freeport, Grand Bahama Island - On September 4th, 2009 Ross University Bahamas commenced its third semester since officially opening in January 2009.  New students were greeted with breakfast and a full day of on site orientation, where they learn about all aspects of their academic and island life including the Ross hurricane preparedness plan while in Grand Bahama.

Faculty and administration were introduced to the students. Members of the Grand Bahama Health Services and doctors from the Rand Hospital who are participating in the Clinical Education Program with Ross were also introduced. Dr. Frank Bartlett was on hand to speak directly to the students and introduce his team.

Freeport, Grand Bahama Island - On July 31st, 2009 the second Dean's List for students of the Ross University Medical School, Bahamas campus were acknowledged in an award ceremony with the Dean of the School of Medicine, Dr. Mary Coleman.

The Ross University Dean's lists is for students who receive all A's in their courses for two consecutive semesters and they remain on the Dean's list as long as they maintain a B average in subsequent semesters. The Dean’s List is posted every semester as soon as grades are available from the previous semester.

Semester 3 recipients are  Mark Floyd, and Benjamin Wayment; and in semester 4 the recipients are Dana Price, Moses Wananu, Leslie Powell, Knema Rezaei, Anas Saleh, Daphne Scaramangas, Robert Westbrook, and Stephen Smith...

Grand Bahama Island - Ross University students take part in their inaugural community effort alongside the Shiloh Sevent Day Adventist Church at their 4th Annual Grand Bahama Health Expo held on Sunday, March 29th from 11:30 am to 6pm.

Over 60 Ross Students and 4 of the faculty members took turns during 4 shifts throughout the day manning booths providing information on diabetes, hypertension, eye and ear health and examination and breast heath and examinations.

Grand Bahama Island – Hundreds of landlords and property owners turned out to a town meeting held at the Foster B. Pestaina Centre on Monday, September 29th to pre-register and hear how they could become eligible to provide housing for Ross medical school students who will begin school in January 2009 at the Seahorse Plaza interim campus in Freeport.

Sandi Cutler, Ross Vice President for Planning and Business Development gave a brief history on Ross University, and explained the steps necessary for landlords to become listed with the Ross University rental registry which will be available to all Ross students by October 20th through their housing website. Most Ross students cannot take the time away from their studies to travel to a new place and search for housing.    By using the university's housing referral service they are able to obtain trustworthy information and arrange their housing conveniently. This service is voluntary for students/faculty/staff and landlords, however 90% of Ross students use it.

Grand Bahama Island - The Bahamas Weekly News Team brings you an exclusive video interview with the President of Ross University, Dr. Thomas C. Shepard on July 28, 2008, the day the announcement for the new Ross Bahamas Campus took place in Grand Bahama Island.

Here we visit Dr. Shepherd in the boardroom of the Grand Bahama Port Authority and learn about Ross University as well as their plans for the Bahamas Campus. Dr. Shepherd explains why Grand Bahama Island was chosen and the economic benefits to the Grand Bahama community in having a medical school year round. He also explains the medical program and about the requirements needed for students to apply and be eligible.

As soon as January 2009 students will be learning on location at the Freeport Interim Campus at Seahorse Shopping Plaza, and in 2010 the Permanent 60,000-80,000 square foot Campus will begin to be operational...

This video provides a bird's eye view into the challenges faced along the way, the economic growth potential for Grand Bahama island and the proposed different phases of the Ross University plan.

The Prime Minister praises the Port Authority "for its tenacity in bringing this venture to fruition", and he also says to the University that "it was not easy to get the government bureaucracy to change its mindset about not having offshore medical centers in The Bahamas."

Additionally, The Prime Minister alludes to the present situation at the Grand Bahama Port Authority as he praises the appointment of Eric Christensen as the new chairman of one of the Port Group Companies stating: "Eric Christensen is someone with whom I and my Government are happy to do, and to continue to do, business, if he is allowed to do business with us..."

Grand Bahama Island - A ceremony to announce the Ross University Bahamas Campus was held on Monday, July 28th at the future site of the campus location.  The ceremony was held at Britannia Boulevard and Sunset Highway in Freeport. Moderator for the event was Mr. Terence Gape.  Summer student at the Port Group Limited, Deangelo Armbrister sang the National Anthem, and Canon Harry Bain gave the Invocation.

The Right Hon. Hubert A. Ingraham, Prime Minister of The Bahamas was in attendance, along with local Ministers and dignitaries throughout the Grand Bahama community.  Special invites were put out to those working in the health industry.

Ross University president, Dr. Thomas C. Shepherd provided remarks (enclosed within) as well as the new Chairman of the Port Group Limited, Mr. Eric Christiansen .
