Bahamas – While planning is still under development for Ross University
to determine the reopening of its School of Medicine program at the
Bahamas campus, the University has relocated its Medical Education Review
Program (MERP) from Miami, FL to Freeport, Grand Bahama.
MERP is a rigorous 15-week program designed
to prepare students for successful entry into Ross University’s School
of Medicine (RUSM). MERP’s curriculum provides preparatory science
courses that integrate content offered in RUSM. It is offered by invitation
to RUSM applicants who do not yet fully qualify for acceptance to RUSM.
“The relocation of the MERP from Miami
to the Seahorse Plaza campus in Freeport not only speaks to Ross University’s
continued commitment to The Bahamas, but also acknowledges the preliminary
success of the Freeport site,” said Londell Albury, executive administrator in Freeport.
The university began a partial transition
for the MERP at Seahorse Plaza in the Bahamas with the January session.
The current MERP session began April 8, 2011 and runs until July 22, 2011.
“The start of each new MERP semester ushers in a new wave of bright
and eager students focused on qualifying for enrollment to Ross University
School of Medicine, with ambitions of becoming an MD. Our goal at the
Seahorse Plaza campus is to ensure that we provide a healthy learning
environment and academic support to foster student success,” said
Albury.
Like all prospective RUSM student candidates, individuals who successfully
pass the MERP must also fully meet RUSM’s admissions criteria.
Ross University was founded in 1978 and is a provider of medical
and veterinary education offering doctor of medicine and doctor of veterinary
medicine degree programs. The School of Medicine is located in Dominica,
West Indies. The School of Veterinary Medicine is located in St. Kitts.
The Freeport, Grand Bahamas site was opened in January 2009, and is
currently under operation by Ross Health Sciences. Ross University's
administrative offices are located in North Brunswick, NJ.
