SwimSwam.com reports on Grand Bahama's Joanna Evans:
"Joanna Evans, a distance freestyler from The
Bahamas, has made a verbal commitment to the University of Texas
beginning with the 2015-16 season.
Evan represented The Bahamas at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in
Nanjing this past summer. She was the bronze medalist in the 800m free
with 8:39.75. She went into the meet with a seed time of 8:57 from
Charlotte Grand Prix in February. In the 400m free, Evans dropped more
than five seconds to finish fifth with 4:12.14. She was only 9/10 behind
gold medalist Hannah Moore of the USA and 2.9 seconds ahead of the
sixth-place finisher.
It’s not a perfect science trying to determine where a long course
meters distance freestyler will fit into a short course yards NCAA
program, but one might comfortably assume Evans can be a sub-4:45 in the
500 free and sub-16:00 in the mile. And that’s a good thing for the
Longhorns, whose top three distance freestylers are all seniors this
year."
