Nassau, The Bahamas - Hurricane Season begins June 1st and The Bahamas Weekly News Team is pleased to announce this year's 2009 hurricane forecast. The Team was able to stop in to the 13th annual Bahamas Weather Conference in April thanks to SkyBahamas.  This year's weather conference which is attended by officials from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), the National Hurricane Center (NHC), members of emergency management organizations, academia and television news weathermen and women from all over the world, was  held at the Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort in New Providence.

In this video you will hear from  famed hurricane expert, Meteorologist, Dr. William Gray from Colorado State University who will provide this year's forecast; Max Mayfield, who moderated and planned the conference agenda and is former director of the National Hurricane Center;  and well-known TV personality Steve Lyons, Tropical Weather Expert, The Weather Channel.

Exciting news is that new probabilities have been developed specifically for The Bahamas and will be revealed on the Gray/Klotzbach website. You can also find their 2009 Prediction in a PDF format. More specific information will be provided for regions in the Bahamas such as North, Central  and South Bahamas.

Dr Gray also said it will be an average hurricane season with 12 named storms, 6 hurricanes and two major storms. There is also an el nino potential.

Steve Lyons from the Weather Channel shares how important it is to be prepared no matter the amount of storms. He speaks about the 5 toes of a hurricane footprint we should be concerned with: 1.wind, 2. water rise, 3. rain fall flooding, 4. wave action, and 5. tornado threat.

The video closes with more words from Dr. Bill Gray who after 26 years in this business plans to write a book on hurricane structure and focus more of his time on global warming research, leaving the annual hurricane forecast and weather conference attendance to his young counterpart Phil Klotzbach. Dr. Gray says he feels global warming is over exaggerated.
