Freeport, Bahamas - Earlier this week (June 22nd and 24th) The Tribune ran two articles based on an interview with FORMER Bahamas State Finance Minister Zhivargo Laing pertaining to liberalization of immigration policy as a stimulus for new economic life for the Bahamas. Mr. Laing feels that; “Unless some outside force brings new capitol injection, builds a new business  that requires new employment...unless that happens and happens on on any sizable scale, you don't get any new money that can be injected into this economy to bring any new income for people to be able to spend and therefore cause there to feel like there's some prosperity in the economy..."

Sir Jack said of life in Freeport in the early days; “I came here in 1956, a year after the agreement (HBCA) had been signed and of course there was nothing here. We all lived in quonset huts, barracks…very primitive. There were no roads there was no television…

On January 21st, 1996, shortly before his retirement, the late Rusty Bethel, born May 29th, 1913 recorded this stimulating interview with Dave Mackey. He discusses the history of broadcasting in The Bahamas before and after his co-founding of Radio Bahamas (ZNS), and shares his fond memories of the Carron & Dupuch families during his years with The Tribune Newspaper, and much more. This historical interview was just retrieved, and it never aired on radio. We present it to you in memoriam to him and for your enlightenment. In addition, this interview presents in Rusty's own words and voice, a moving history of The Bahamas that predates even the existence of Freeport...

Bahamas lawmaker apologizes for Travolta mistrial - Oct 27, 2009 - 2:36:09 PM

Associate Press - NASSAU, Bahamas — The Bahamas lawmaker who prompted a mistrial in the John Travolta extortion case has publicly apologized to the judge and the people of the island chain.

Picewell Forbes says his announcement of an acquittal while the jury was still deliberating last week were "reckless" and "not true."

But he isn't saying where he heard the report that he repeated in a televised speech at a political convention.

Forbes' attorney Anthony McKinney said Tuesday his client cannot comment further because the matter is still before the court..

Freeport, Grand Bahama Island - On April 26th, 2006 at 4:50PM I, Dave Mackey recorded my final studio session with my now deceased friend and former colleague in the music business; Cyril “Dry Bread Ferguson. This recording unlike numerous others that Dry Bread and I recorded together over the past twenty years was not a music session, but rather it was an interview session at Mackeymedia. The interview was recorded to be streamed on my Mackeymedia.com website. Although I never uploaded Dry Bread’s interview to the Internet, I archived it for future use and I am pleased to share it with you herewith for the first time.

Through the years as Dry Bread's engineer/ co-producer and graphic design artist of many of his album covers, Cyril and I worked together on many of his hits from the days of Cay Gotlieb’s Cicada Sounds Studio (now COOL96 studios) to my Mackeymedia multimedia production studio...

Meghan's wish was to visit Atlantis in The Bahamas, and through our contacts we learned of Meghan and set up an audio interview via phone. You will hear first from Meghan's mother, Paula Griffin who provides information on Meghan's illness and shares the daily struggles she and the Griffin family go through in order to keep Meghan alive.

Mrs. Griffin also offers words of encouragement to other families who may also be facing terminal illness...

 documents the earliest untold stories of the Bahamian and African-American people who were the original settlers and builders of Coconut Grove in Florida.

FURTHERING THE PLEDGE OF ACCOUNTABILITY – Keeping the pledge made prior to his re-election to office, Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Hubert Ingraham held the first for 2008 of what is expected to be quarterly Meet the Press conferences. The Meet the Press event was held at the Victoria Room of the British Colonial Hilton on Sunday, February 3, 2008.

Leading by example, Prime Minister Ingraham said he implemented the quarterly sessions to help to encourage others in the public sector to be more open and forthcoming in dealing with the press.

Journalists in New Providence took full advantage of the press event, asking questions of the Prime Minister on topics ranging from crime to the economy to contemporary social events...
