On January 21st, 1996, shortly before his retirement, the late Rusty Bethel, born May 29th, 1913 recorded this stimulating interview with Dave Mackey. He discusses the history of broadcasting in The Bahamas before and after his co-founding of Radio Bahamas (ZNS), and shares his fond memories of the Carron & Dupuch families during his years with The Tribune Newspaper, and much more. This historical interview was just retrieved, and it never aired on radio. We present it to you in memoriam to him and for your enlightenment.

In addition, this interview presents in Rusty's own words and voice, a moving history of The Bahamas that predates even the existence of Freeport. The above captioned photo of Dave Mackey (L ) & Rusty Bethel was taken at The Tribune Freeport office on the eve of  Mr. Bethel's retirement after 71 years in the work force. The hand shake symbolizes Rusty  passing on his administrative role at the Tribune Freeport over to Dave Mackey.
