Nassau,
Bahamas - Effective August 30th Philip Simon will play a new role in
the ongoing development of the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce as he steps down
from the position of Executive Director, a position he has held for the past
8 years. Although he is stepping away from the day-to-day management of the
Chamber, Philip will continue to play a pivotal role in the ongoing affairs of
the Chamber at the Board of Directors level.
President
of the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce, Khaalis Rolle commented that “Philip Simon
brought the Chamber into the 21st century; When he came onboard the
Chamber was a shell of a building with few functional programs. Through his
hard work, dedication and tremendous personal sacrifice he is chiefly
responsible for modernizing the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and giving it the
strong voice it enjoys today. I personally became involved with the Chamber due
to Phil’s effort and I have seen the tremendous transformation over the years”.
It
is widely known that Philip has forgone many lucrative opportunities to work on
the development of a strong private sector voice. He feels that now is the time
for him to play a more active role in his private business interest which
includes a strong consultancy business and an emerging technology business.
Some
of the accomplishments during Simon’s tenure include a strong growth in
membership, expansion throughout the Family Islands, increase in the brand
awareness and creation of many new programs, numerous signings of MOU and Trade
Cooperation agreements and influence on the economic, legislative and civil
growth of the country.
The
current evolution of the Chamber and its look and feel will be different when
the merger with the Bahamas Employers Confederation is complete. We anticipate
having a new management and board structure to meet the challenges of a new
organization and provide the expanded list of services for our members.
We
would like to congratulate Phillip for the wonderful job he has done and look
forward to continuing this partnership through his continued presence as a
member of the Board of Directors.
