Funeral service for the late Deaconess
Doris Minette Cooper, 78
of Freeport, Grand Bahama took place on November 19, 2011 at
10:00 a.m. at St. John’s Jubilee Cathedral, Settler’s Way, Freeport.
Officiating was Pastor Rev. Michael Pander, assisted by Pastor Rev.
Elvis Burrows, Ph. D. and Pastor Rev. Leonard Pinder. Interment followed at The Cooper Estate, East Beach Drive.
Left
to cherish her memories and carry on her legacies are her loving and
devoted husband of 59 years: Havard Samuel Cooper; children: Andrea and
Rev. Allison Pinder and kids, Audric and Destini, Atalya, Keith and
Audra Lovely; Dr. Havard and Minister Alice Cooper and kids, Havard
Worthy...

have been so moved by the death of Neil “the Mayor” Percentie, that I wanted to
ensure that I did not leave anything thing out if I got caught up in the
emotion of the moment...

Nassau, Bahamas - The following are remarks made by the Rt. Hon. Hubert Ingraham, Prime Minister of The Bahamas at the funeral service for Sheila McDonald at St. Michael's Methodist Church on August 20th, 2011.
On
behalf of the Bahamas Government and the Public Service of The Bahamas
and on my own behalf and that of my wife Delores, as well as the Executive,
Officers, Associations and Members of the Free National Movement, I
offer condolences and sympathy to the family of Sheila McDonald, particularly
Justin and Tarah.
Sheila
McDonald spent 43 years of her life in service to the government and
people of The Bahamas in the Customs Department. She joined the
Department as a clerk at a time when women were not recruited to the
officer core of the Department.

On February 26, 1942 a bouncing baby
boy was born in Nassau to Salatheal “Teddy” and Elizabeth Jennie
Rahming (both deceased). He was their first born. They named him Garth
Anthony. He was affectionately called “Waldo” by his close
friends.
At an early age he attended Smith Point
Private School located at the time on Fort Hill. Upon completion he
attended St. Augustine All Boys School at that time located in Fox Hill.
Later, Garth and younger brother Rupert
went on to attend Northwestern Senior High School in Miami Florida.

Tribute to Mr. Cyril Raymond Baily - Apr 22, 2011 - 4:53:39 AM
The Scout Association of The Bahamas was saddened to learn of the
passing of one of the stalwarts of the Movement in the person of Mr.
Cyril Raymond Baily. Mr. Baily was extremely active in the local
Movement back in the early 1960s when he worked as an Accountant with
the firm of Price Waterhouse.
Cyril Baily’s life in Scouting began when he joined the Cub-Scouts of
the 7th Aintree Pack in Liverpool, England and he progressed through
the ranks, becoming a young Leader himself. In 1962, he was assigned to
The Bahamas by Price Waterhouse and immediately continued his work with
the Boy Scouts. His life revolved around basically two themes which
were assisting young people and service to his community. Ideally, the
Scout Movement permitted him to pursue both of his passions
simultaneously.

Well-known Bahamian Photographer Dies at Age 73 - Apr 5, 2011 - 8:38:27 PM
Nassau, Bahamas - Well-known Bahamian photographer,
Howard Livingstone Glass has died at the age of 73, after a long illness.
Mr. Glass passed away at the Princess Margaret Hospital on Sunday, April
3. He is a former employee of Bahamas Information Services where
he worked as a government photographer during the l960s and l970s.
Mr. Glass has also worked at the Ministry of Tourism.
To his credit, Mr. Glass was
the personal photographer for the late prime minister, Sir Lynden O.
Pindling’s, and has captured many historical images of Mr. Pindling
and Sir Milo B. Butler, including the image of Sir Milo printed on school
notebooks...

Nassau, Bahamas - Leo
Carey, a prominent Nassau businessman, died at his home on Tuesday,
March 8, the family announced March 12th.
Charles Leo Carey was
born to William Albert and Madeline Elizabeth Carey at Tarpum Bay,
Eleuthera, on Wednesday, January 22, 1930.
After completing his
education at the Tarpum Bay All-age school, Leo moved to Nassau to make a
livelihood for himself. With his brother, Otis, he started a store on
Blue Hill Road, opposite to Dr. Claudius Walker’s Reinhardt Hotel. In
May, 1954, he married Dorothy Louise McCartney, and together, they
raised twelve children...

Remembering Retired Assistant Commissioner of Police Basil Dean - Feb 28, 2011 - 9:39:10 PM

Retired Assistant Commissioner
of Police Basil Dean was accorded a full military funeral during a Mass
of Resurrection on Tuesday, February 22 at Christ Church Cathedral.
Minister of National Security the Hon. Tommy Turnquest paid tribute
during the service which was attended by Commissioner Ellison Greenslade
and the High Command of the Royal Bahamas Police Force. Mr Dean
was buried in Woodlawn Gardens Cemetery.
Basil was born in New
Providence to William Dean and Mable Ingraham (nee Ferguson). As a
child he had the habit of reading detective novels along with doing the
other normal things boys do. That curiosity led Basil to join the Royal
Bahamas Police Force July 16, 1966, before Majority Rule was achieved...

Rt. Rev’d Bishop Michael Eldon hailed as an outstanding Bahamian - Feb 17, 2011 - 8:57:58 PM
Nassau, The Bahamas
– Bahamians gathered at Christ Church Cathedral Tuesday, February
15 to honour the life of the late Right Reverend Michael Hartley Eldon.
During a service of thanksgiving he was recognised as a loyal, forgiving,
outstanding educator, teacher and family man, and one who believed in
Bahamians.
Bishop Eldon, 79, served
the Anglican Diocese for some 50 years as a priest, of which 25 was
as a bishop. He was the first Bahamian Bishop of the Diocese, then known
as Nassau and The Bahamas including the Turks and Caicos Islands. He
also served as a teacher and assistant master at St. John’s College.
He died on February 7 after a long illness...

Freeport, Bahamas - On a blessed day of March 12, 1951, a handsome precious baby boy was
born to Albertha Fernander and Anthony Omen Higgs. They named
him Anthony Rudulph Higgs. At the age of one the disease Polio affected
his body, but despite that he grew up to be a very creative young man.
Entertainment was his passion, and he worked as a performer who ate
glass and danced on broken bottles and developed the name, "The Amazing
Spider Man".
This world renown Bahamian performing artist passed away just before Christmas of 2010. Anthony "Spider Man" Higgs performed not only
throughout the islands of The
Bahamas, but also in Baltimore and Chicago in the United States of
America...

was born in Dartford, Kent
England on February 16, 1950 to Leatrice and
Christoper Walmsley, a local barber. Lewis grew up with his beloved sister,
Tina.
Lewis won entry into the prestigious Dartford Technical
High School for Boys in 1961, later graduating in 1968.
In 1973 Lewis met and married Madeline.

this union three sons were born, Daryl, Jason and Lee...

January 12, 2010 - Mrs. Hilkka Nygård passed away with her family by her side.
Hilkka and her husband, Eeli were hard working immigrants with a lot of 'sisu' (Finnish word
meaning 'perseverance'), they became the proud owners of the 'NYGÅRD Bakery' -
they worked night and day to turn it into a great success. Even in her
retirement, Hilkka wanted to stay involved in business and remained an active
director of many of her son's companies, and was highly involved in the
financial day-to-day control of the Bahamas operations...

Dottie the Daring Dalmatian who
won our hearts with her fearless adventures in “Who Let the Dog Out???”
and “Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot!!” by author Carole Hughes, is off on her
very last adventure.
Sadly on Tuesday January 12th 2010, at the
ripe young age of 16 years, Dottie departed this life to move on to new
and even more exciting adventures.
Our hearts and love
go with her, she will never be forgotten, but lives on in her stories
and in our hearts...

– Sir Clement Travelyan Maynard, former Deputy Prime Minister,
was remembered as “a committed family man, an outstanding churchman,
and an exemplary statesman” during State Funeral services in his honor
on Wednesday at Christ Church Cathedral
Governor-General, His Excellency Arthur
D Hanna and Prime Minister, the Rt Hon Hubert A Ingraham led official
mourners.
Also paying respect were parliamentarians,
senators, members of the judiciary, the religious community, public
officers, and representatives of the uniformed branches including the
Royal Bahamas Police Force, the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, Customs,
Immigration, Road Traffic Department, and Her Majesty’s Prison.

In 1968 Alan graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of London with 1st class honors. He then went on to the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) in London receiving the First Tompson Prize.
The in 1970 he became the Scientific Coordinator for the RVC East African Research Team in Uganda. He received his B.Vet Medical degree with Distinction in Veterinary Surgery and the Centenary second prize from the Royal Veterinary College.
Alan came to Freeport in 1972 and began as an associate then partner then principal in the Freeport Animal Clinic until a few weeks ago in August. Attached are posters made for his wake which was held at the Freeport Rugby Football Club...

Ferguson, Jr. died on June 9th, 2009.
Eldin A. Ferguson Jr.and his wife, Sharon Elaine Smith-Ferguson, were owners and operators of Bahamas International Fisheries and Conch Dog. They are the creators of the first Bahamian Seafood Sausage “The Conch Dog”. They have received commendations from the Ministries of Tourism and Foreign Affairs for their contribution in promoting Bahamian Cuisine locally and in the United States.
