Passing of David L. Johnson mourned by GBI Tourism Sector -

David Livingstone Johnson, formerly President of the
Grand Bahama Island Tourism Board passed away, quietly at Princess
Margaret Hospital on Tuesday, August 14th, following a brief illness, at
the age of 67.
Dedicated to the successful development of
tourism in Grand Bahama, Mr. Johnson was influential in the decision to
reposition the destination away from the commercial image of “Freeport”
in the international marketplace replacing it with Grand Bahama Island.
The term he felt symbolized a multifaceted destination with historic
seaside settlements, beaches and cays along with the modern amenities
featuring golf, gaming, diving, fishing, soft adventures, shopping and
nightlife.

Funeral for Phenton Neymour set for August 2 -

The Cabinet Office announced today that an Official Funeral will be held
for the late Mr. Phenton Neymour, former Cabinet Minister and
Parliamentarian, on Thursday, 2nd August, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ
Church Cathedral, George Street. Interment will follow at Woodlawn
Gardens Cemetery, Soldier Road.
Further, the body will
lie-in-state in the foyer of the House of Assembly, Parliament Square,
from 9:00 a. m. on Wednesday 1st August until the body departs for the
church on Thursday, 2nd August, 2018...

Illustrious Basil Sands loved God. He was devoted to his God and his
Anglican Church, while respecting the many ways in which people express
their spirituality.
During the Episcopacy of Bishops Eldon and
Gomez, Mr. Sands, the Treasurer of the Diocese, who served voluntarily,
designed and implemented strategies to strengthen the fiscal foundation
of the Diocese. He also served Bishop Boyd and remained available for
astute advice. The Bishops and he recognized the need for an holistic
approach to decision making.......

President of The Bahamas Press Club 2014 Anthony Capron said it is with
profound sadness, the organization notes the passing of Gina Morley, a
faithful member and colleague. She died on Thursday, May 3, 2018.
Ms
Morley was a former journalist who became an attorney and hosted the
genealogy programme “Bahamian Bio” on Sunday nights at 7pm, and the
“It’s The Law” legal tips, which aired at various times during the
weekday lineup on Guardian Radio.
“Ms Morley was a valued member of The Bahamas Press Club, who
contributed much to the progress of the BPC and her sage advice will be
sorely missed..."

Bahamian Olympian Sir Durward Knowles dies at 100 -

Bahamian sailing legend, and Olympian Sir.
Durward Knowles passed away today in Nassau, New Providence.
He competed at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan where he won a gold medal in the Star class together with Cecil Cooke.

The Cabinet Office announces that an Official funeral will be held for
the late Bernard J. Nottage, former Minister of National Security and
Member of Parliament for Bain and Grants Town on Friday 14 July at
11:00in the morning at St. Agnes Church.
Dr.Nottage passed away on Wednesday 28 June in a Florida hospital where
he was airlifted after spending 3 days in the Intensive Care Unit of
Doctor’s Hospital.Throughout this period, Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Hubert
Minnis was in close and frequent contact with Mrs. Portia Nottage, wife
of Bernard Nottage.

family and friends of Dr. the Honourable Bernard “BJ” Nottage, a former
Minister of Health in the Government of The Bahamas. This great Bahamian
ended his earthly pilgrimage Wednesday 28th June, 2017. I offer my
prayers and support to his wife Portia and his sons, and I know that
fellow physicians and the entire medical community are indeed saddened
by this loss.
Public service is not the song and dance that it appears to be. It
requires discipline and leadership. It requires discernment and a vision
for hope. It requires a keen sense of fairness and judgment and the

“Reach
out and touch somebody’s hand – make this world a better place if you
can”. I have seen the late Honourable Dr. B.J. Nottage hold an elderly
woman’s hand and sing her a song. Her demeanour completely changed. BJ,
as he was affectionately called by all wanted to and did leave this
world a better place.
BJ was an extraordinary human being and a
very proud Bahamian patriot and nation builder, whose life exemplifies
the Bahamian capacity to rise from humble beginnings to attain the
highest heights – which is what he did in his all of his fields of
endeavor.

Mr. Thompson, a trade unionist of great distinction, having served in
numerous capacities as an Executive Officer of the Bahamas Hotel
Catering and Allied Workers Union including Trustee, Treasurer and Vice
President. After entering the Tourism sector in 1954 as a Bellboy at
the Lighthouse Beach Hotel, in Fresh Creek Andros, Mr. Thompson always
