The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association(BLTA) is proud of the awarding of tennis scholarships from top college institutions in The United States to two of our top female juniors in the Bahamas: Afrika Smith and Sierra Donaldson.  Both ladies have toured the junior circuit over the past few years and have attained much success including quarterfinals, semifinals and finals appearances in the international tennis arena.  Both ladies have soared to high heights in USTA and ITF tournaments. Sierra and Afrika have proudly represented the Bahamas on national teams including World Juniors, Junior Fed Cup and other team competitions.

The ladies have also given back to the BLTA's Play and Stay program which seeks to provide tennis to one and all.  The ladies used their tennis knowledge to introduce many kids to the sport, some of whom never held a tennis racquet.  Over the years, Afrika and Sierra have given unselfishly of their time and energies to the sport of tennis.

Recently,Afrika Smith was awarded a tennis scholarship to Bethune Cookman College.  Afrika will join Bethune Women's Tennis Team " Wildcats".  Afrika had great success in tennis making it to the ITF finals in Curacao last year.  Afrika is the daughter of our former first Vice President Mr. Omar Smith and Mrs. Roseanne Smith.

Sierra Donaldson  was awarded a Tennis Scholarship at Lee University. As she joins Lee's Tennis Team "The Flames"  we wish that she lights up the college tennis arena.
Sierra is the daughter of former President of the BLTA  Mr. Elwood & Mrs. Chanelle Donaldson .  Sierra represented the country well on a senior level on the Fed Cup Team and made great advances in ITFs.

The BLTA is confident Sierra and Afrika will build upon the solid  tennis foundation and advance in college tennis to new heights.

We will surely be hearing from these two ladies in the international tennis arena in the future!
