Thursday, April 20, 2017, Championing the quality of the Institute’s academic programmes, Godfrey Eneas, President of The Bahamas Agriculture and Marine Science Institute (BAMSI), said every member of BAMSI’s graduating class of 2016 is positively engaged, either gainfully employed or pursuing further studies at the tertiary level. Addressing the second Information Session hosted by the Institute’s Admissions Department, Mr. Eneas was responding to the concern that the Bahamas is being challenged to prepare its labor force for employment opportunities of the 21st century. “BAMSI is the only institution in our country that is addressing the realities of the global village in which we now live…[Our] graduates are firstly job creators and where they are employed, they bring value to the job because they have employable skills,” Mr. Eneas said.
Scores of school guidance counselors and prospective students attended the Session, held at the East Street Tabernacle Church of God of Prophecy’s Conference Centre.
Dr. Raveenia Roberts-Hanna, Executive Director of BAMSI, further shared on the various learning opportunities available at BAMSI. The Institute offers five associate degree programmes, proficiency certificates, short courses and workshops. “BAMSI’s Flexi Choice program is unique, as it gives learners the opportunity to study at their pace and convenience…a busy working professional can study his theory online, then take his vacation during the summer and attend our campus in Andros to complete his practical.”
Ms. Jarenda Rahming, Sr. Admissions Officer, said she is very pleased with the response and feedback she continues to receive as a result of the information sessions. “Today, a student from Harbour Island travelled with his mother just to submit his completed application and attend this session!” Ms. Rahming said, “The response from guidance counselors and the public has been equally enthusiastic…we have been invited to make a presentation to the Guidance Counselors Workshop this summer and many people have expressed interest in taking our short courses.” Ms. Rahming said that BAMSI is gaining momentum in the Bahamian community and the message that it is an open door of opportunities is quickly catching on.
